Melbourne Australia 2009 - Anyone going to the shows?

Melbourne JAzz Festical is on later this month in Melbourne Australia (of course)

Just wondering if any of our worthy constituency will be attending and what?

I'm trying to combine a work trip with one or more of Tim Berne's appearances.

I'm pretty much fully retired from the local jazz scene, contemporary jazz in general and gig-going. Have been for a few years now.

However, I keep up to date with my mate Roger, who took over my jazz writer duties at the Sunday Herald Sun, which I left in November.

Having said that, who knows, I may pop up at the free Federation Square show by Charlie Haden and the (Australian) Liberation Orchestra that opens the festival or a few other places and times.

Oddly enough, I played the long track off the Orchestra Impulse! album on the radio on Monday, and it fitted right in superbly with the stuff I was playing - Grateful Dead cosmic cowboy tunes, spaghetti western stuff, Magnificent Seven opening theme and other goofy cowboy stuff.

It certainly seems like a strong lineup.

Kenny no longer on the radio. Seeking radio station that isn't so pigeonhole-bound that it can't handle an approach that takes in Louis Armstrong, Sun Ra, the Grateful Dead and Bob Wills.
