Georg Graewe, impressions of monk

nuscope CD 1006

Georg Graewe, piano
Marcio Mattos, bass
Michael Vatcher, drums

This is a quiet gem that I listened to again recently for the first time in several years. Recorded in 1995, impressions of monk accomplishes the feat of making you listen to Monk's music in a whole new way, gaining insights into his genius. And no matter where Graewe takes his improvisations, the essence of Monk's approach to rhythm and harmony is there. I have a feeling Monk would approve.

Its a real gem indeed, although he's been around the scene for more than 30 years already (at age 53!), played with Braxton and others, made some 20 records, this one also to me is outstanding

His line-ups vary a lot: cello, synthi, bass clarinette aso

This trio is a rare piece

I'm glad someone else likes it as well; I was getting worried when no one responded!

I've mentioned this album several times. It is one of my favorites, and certainly my favorite cover album of Monk tunes (there must be hundreds of them out there).

sorry, not aware of that, typical newbie error. Glad you like it. Guess that makes us a trio

It's not an error just an explanation as to why you should not worry when you sometimes do not get a reaction from the oldies. This board desperately needs newbies.

You guys inspired me to put an order at IndieJazz for this.

I have many Monk tributes I still find amazingly performed and love after many years; this falls in the right place for me
