What Would Kafka Say About Jazz Corner?

Fellowship
by Franz Kafka

There are five of us, we are friends, we once came, one after the other, out of a house, first one came and stood beside the gate, then came, or rather glided, the next, as smooth as the glide of a little ball of mercury, out of the gate and stood not far from the first, and then the third, then the fourth, then the fifth. Finally, we were all standing in line. People noticed us, pointed at us, saying: The five of them just came out of that house. Since then we have lived together, it would be a peaceful life if a sixth didn't interfere all the time. He doesn't do anything to us, but he annoys us, that's enough; why does he force himself on us when we don't want him. We don't know him and don't want to include him among us. It's true that there was a time when the five of us didn't know each other either, and in a way we don't really know each other now, but what is possible and can be tolerated between the five of us is not possible and cannot be tolerated in the sixth. Besides, there are five of us and we don't want to be six. And what could possibly be the point of this constantly being together, it has no meaning for the five of us either, but now we are together and that’s how things will stay, but we don't want to start a new club, precisely because of our experiences. But how can all of this be made comprehensible to the sixth, long explanations would as good as mean he had been accepted into our circle already, we would rather not explain anything and won't take him in. He can purse his lips as much as he likes, we'll elbow him out of the way, but no matter how energetically we push him away, he keeps coming back.

Pete you are the bee's knees man! I was kicking myself for not referencing Kafka earlier. He's one of my faves too.

Kafka would buy a six pack, but he'd only trake 5 home...always leaving the dreaded 'sixth' behind .

When those who had witnessed such scenes thought back on them a few years later, often they were unable to understand themselves. For in the meantime that change mentioned above had set it. It happened almost immediately. There may have been more profound reasons for it, but who bothered to discover what they were? At any rate, one day the pampered hunger artist saw himself abandoned by the crowd of pleasure seekers, who preferred to stream to other attractions. The impresario chased around half of Europe one more time with him, to see whether he could still re-discover the old interest here and there. It was all futile. It was as if a secret agreement against the fasting performances had really developed everywhere. Naturally, the truth is that it could not have happened so quickly, and people later remembered some things which in the days of intoxicating success they had not paid sufficient attention to, some inadequately suppressed indications, but now it was too late to do anything to counter them. Of course, it was certain that the popularity of fasting would return once more someday, but for those now alive that was no consolation. What was the hunger artist to do now?

No, you'd have to start a 'What are you not eating?' thread. Although come to think of it, i think i encountered one by that name in the backthreads.

After going through part of the threads in here (mostly music related ones of course) , he'd probably try to make use of his celeb status and ask Lois to rename this forum "The Gutter"

The light was strong as I read it. I was a good light and true. Momentarily I forgot my war wound and smiled. The rum tasted good and clean. I picked up the rod and reel and went to the boat, not forgetting my 12 gauge over and under.

It was good.
