so, how do you like it? And how far back do you need to sit from that sucker to see it all?
I'm 10.5 feet (but who's counting?) from a 42" and that's perfect for me. Some like bigger screens from that distance but I'd need at least another foot or two for a 50", I think.

We don't have it set up yet. We're in the middle of renovations and one of the things we're doing is reconstructing our fireplace and hanging the big tv above it. We'll have about 12' from where the tv is hanging, so hopefully that will work. We went to the electronics store planning on a 42" but got up-sized while we were there
We also got a monster remote for it and we get pvr with the cable box, so it's going to be a whole new television experience for us.

Maybe you've already checked this out, but there may be some issues with a flat screen TV mounted over the fireplace. Too much heat or somesuch, I think.

I mounted my 46" Sony Bravia LCD over my fireplace, but only after deciding that I am not going to use the fireplace anymore. My house is a bitch to keep warm in the winter at the best of times, and burning logs in a fireplace is a horribly inefficient way to provide heat. Yes, it looks pretty and smells nice, but you are drawing all the warm inside air into the firebox and shooting your heat straight up the chimney.
I've had my TV for about a year now and, like Los Enforcer (above), I'm not over it yet. Spectacular upgrade from a 17" tube.
I used to live in a house that had a fieldstone fireplace with a heat exchanger setup built into it. Fans would suck in air on either side of the fireplace, allow it to heat by passing along the sides of the firebox, then shoot it back out again. It was also wide enough to take 4 foot logs. That fireplace rocked.

We're actually putting an electric insert in, so it won't be burning wood anymore.

..means, she'll probably gain control over that awsome piece of remote, too
yes, right now I could be watching wimbledon but instead I am watching something about the jon & kate bombshell. I need to move into my room, the only room with a small tv.
We got our Sony Bravia for less than $1100 dollars.
I got my 26" Sony Bravia for $600 from Best Buy. After owning the set for 2 months, the sensor stopped working. It has been in the shop since late May and I don't expect to get it back from the shop until early July at least. Sony was quick in getting me a new remote, but they are not being very quick about getting a new sensor for the set. At least it is under warranty.

We got the system installed and managed to get things working last evening. Watched Sharapova lose in the second round at Wimbledon in high def, yowza!! I could see which way the ball was spinning the picture was so clear.
Here's a picture of where the project is at right now.

Movies are great, but it's the sports that have really blown me away. Golf, baseball, and basketball are just beyond belief in HD.
Looking forward to football season!
All sports look much better in HD, but for me, no sport benefits more from it than hockey. Casual fans who have trouble following the game because they can't see the puck on a standard definition TV are amazed by the difference. And as with the other sports, the wide screen makes it possible to see plays developing across the entire icesurface.
Naggz, yes!! I completely forgot about hockey! I watched more hockey this season than I have in a long time because it looked so awesome in HD.
Tennis looks fantastic as well.
Yeah, I guess I have to agree everything sports just looks so incredibly cool in HD. Hell, I remember watching some night time snowmobile races a couples of night after we got our set and just sitting there transfixed!

My husband received a phone call from the electronic repair shop yesterday. The TV was ready to be picked up. I picked it up last night. I can now control the TV with the remotes once again. Hopefully it will last for a while. Not fun being without a TV for a month.
