RIP Farrah Fawcett

'Charlie's Angel' Farrah Fawcett dies at 62
By Bob Thomas

LOS ANGELES — Farrah Fawcett, whose stunning looks and blinding smile made her a pop icon of the 1970s, has died. She was 62.
Her spokesman, Paul Bloch, says Fawcett died Thursday morning in a Santa Monica hospital. Her 2½-year battle with cancer was depicted in the TV documentary "Farrah's Story."
She burst on the scene in 1976 as one-third of the crime-fighting trio in TV's "Charlie's Angeles." A poster of her in a clingy swimsuit sold in the millions.
She left the show after one season but had a flop on the big screen with "Somebody Killed Her Husband." She turned to more serious roles in the 1980s and 1990s, winning praise playing an abused wife in "The Burning Bed."

I remember seeing her on "Charlie's Angels" in the 70's. I saw the documentary of her cancer fight. She fought her battle with cancer bravely.

That was one heck of a poster, back in the 70s.

Yeah, everyone had this on their wall except me. My mother wouldn't let me put it up.

Rest in peace...

She fought a very courageous battle with grace and dignity, as well as a unique sense of humor. And, what a smile!

Ron -

With all due respect to you and Farrah, she looks stoned out of her gourd in that pic.

Yeah, and upon reflection even that classic 70s poster looks a little like a death's head SS argument for aryan beauty. No wonder I was so turned on.

Yet she was an angel. Grrrrr.

...and your point is?

No one who has ever watched a loved one suffer a slow and painful death (especially from cancer) could ever wish her any less than peace. so sad.

Nice tribute, Jason. I'm certain that you weren't alone in your crush on Farrah Fawcett. She was a lovely woman, gone too soon.

A very bizarre and intriguing read, GG.

Lots of things going on there, but I congratulate you on finding such and interesting way of putting it.

Creepy, nostalgic, and endearing all wrapped up into one.

Very nicely done.

I had a poster of Fred Lynn on my wall. That did it for me. He wasn't in a bathing suit, but he sure looked good in that Red Sox uniform. Fit, rich, and one of my favorite players on my favorite team. He's no Adonis, but I definitely fantasized about Fred Lynn. All the boys had that Farrah poster. I had Fred.

Really? I never had a poster and nobody I knew in high school (which maybe was a little early for those kinds of posters) had any posters. A female cousin of mine had a bunch of Beatles pics cut out of mags. In college I think I knew one (jerky) guy who had a poster of some super model and I think maybe somebody had that Nastasia Kinsky and snake thing. But I think posters are more of girl thing, actually.

Guys don't generally fall in love with attractive women in movies the way women fall in love with stars (men and women). And for fantasizing, a lingerie supplement from the Sunday paper will do for most guys just as well as a poster.

OK, well---maybe all the guys *I* knew---and I'm not joking. That poster was everywhere in the 70s.

It was not my experience that girls were more into posters than guys. Not at all. We *all* had posters because we lived in little rooms that sucked. Guess your experience was different.

Considering that the Farrah poster sold thousands of copies, some of them must have been bought by boys.
Posters were huge in the seventies and eighties, right into the nineties.
My oldest daughter had a poster of Sigourney Weaver as Ripley from ALIENS on her wall, when she was a young teenager. It was the one in which she has a big-ass gun in one hand and Newt on her hip.

I think this says more about you than about "guys" in general.

The Farrah poster exploded the whole poster industry. In her wake were posters of Lynda Carter, Cheryl Ladd, Cheryl Tiegs, and many other babealicious celebrities. Can't think of too many straight girls who would've made those items so popular. As I mentioned, I was 13 at this time so I was a prime target. If you were somewhat older, it may not have had as much of an effect on you.

Although I might add I also had a Russ Francis poster (hunky Patriots tight end).

With all due respect, Farrah Fawcett's oft referred to poster was famous only because she sported erect nipples under a bathing suit. She was as flat chested as a billboard. Big deal.

Raquel Welsh was far and away more sexy back then.

My sister had the Lynda Carter Wonder Woman poster (sis and I shared a room). I was into Wonder Woman comics and the tv show and I loved the poster too. But while I thought Lynda as WW was cool, I wanted to go out to dinner with, and ultimately kiss Fred Lynn good night.
