July 7th & 16th Kate Baker and John Dukich at Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center

TWO GRAND NIGHTS FOR SINGING IN JULY!

KATE BAKER SALUTES FEMALE
LEGENDS OF MUSIC
JOHN DUKICH PERFORMS THE MUSIC OF GREAT MALE VOCALISTS

OSPAC (Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center) presents two consecutive Thursday evenings of popular song, as internationally renowned vocalist and recording artist KATE BAKER performs a Salute to the Female Legends of Music (Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, and others) on Thursday, July 9, 2009; and singer JOHN DUKICH takes the OSPAC stage on Thursday, July 16 to perform some of the greatest standards made famous by Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Luis Miguel and Tom Jobim. Both events begin at 8pm.

Suggested donation for both concerts is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors (children free). The Oskar Schindler Performing Arts Center, located at 4 Boland Drive, West Orange, NJ 07052, is easily accessible by train from either South Orange or Montclair train stations; or by car from Interstate 280 from the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike. For directions, or to register for the events, visit www.ospac.org to call 973.669.7385.

KATE BAKER performs July 9 with Vic Juris (guitar), Ted Brancato (piano), Mayra Casales (percussion), Harvie S (bass), Andrea Valentini (drums), and special guests. Her concert will feature songs by some of the greatest female singer-songwriters of the ‘60s and ‘70s, including Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, and Joan Armatrading – artists who have influenced our generation not only musically but culturally as well. Baker’s distinctive vocal style and lyrical expression has made her one of today’s most sought-after singers. Newsday said, “Kate Baker’s phrasing and rhythmic concept are brilliant.” Whether performing jazz, Brazilian, Latin, or blues; in English or Portuguese; in an intimate duo or fronting a big band, she is a musician’s singer. She has performed at numerous jazz festivals and clubs in the U.S. and Europe. She is also one of the busiest vocal teachers in the area and currently coaches several singers on major record labels. She teaches privately at the New School and CCNY and has conducted master classes throughout the U.S and Europe. Her students have included GRAMMY-winning artists, “American Idol” stars, and Night at the Apollo winners. Baker recently completed her debut CD, a big band album with Vic Juris and Richie Cole and the Alto Madness Orchestra.

JOHN DUKICH performs July 16 with Roy Assaf (piano), Yotam Silberstein (guitar), John Lee (bass), Karl Latham (drums), Nicholas Rolfe (keyboards) and Virginia Mayhew (saxophone). Dukich will lend his smooth vocals (singing in English as well as Spanish and Portuguese) to songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Luis Miguel and Tom Jobim. The repertoire for the evening includes “Come Fly With Me,” “Call Me Irresponsible,” “Nice and Easy,” “I've Got You Under My Skin,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” “Everything,” “Always On My Mind,” “Te Necesito,” “Sabor A Mi,” “Wave” and others.
