Men in Tights or the Chick-Flicks movie thread
The mentioning of the expression "chick-flicks" always seem to carry a lot of negative connotations
So here's a thread for all of the sissies, nancies and fairies out there, sitting on the couch with legs decently crossed, pack of hankies secretly hidden in their paws: I am one of you coz I like these movies:
Terms of endearment
Heartburn
As good as it gets
Somethings gotta give
(all Nicholson)
A change of seasons
Loving couples
Steel Magnolias
Postcards from the edge
In her shoes
(all McLaine)
Kramer vs Kramer
Out of Africa
The bridges of Madison county
One true thing
(all Streep)
The secret life of words
Finding neverland
Away from her
(all Christie)
plus almost everything of Susan Sarandon (just for the sake of watching her )from
Rocky Horror
Anywhere but here
Ice Bound
thru
Mr Woodcock
(BTW is Bull Durham considered a guys flick coz it's about baseball?)
plus Diane Lane (just for the sake of looking at her and despite the fact that she's had some dull moments I can still smile and agree when my wife suggests to watch one )
This list has no intention(yet) to be exhaustive

Fun thread.
I'd add:
Resurrection, with Ellen Burstin
Creator, with Peter O' Toole and introducing Virginia Madsen--such a crush-inducing performance

I'll throw in What Women Want with Helen Hunt and Mel Gibson.
Probably the only chick-flick I have ever watched and liked. Partly because Helen Hunt has that same subtle sexiness Teri Garr had when she was still working. Plus the sound track is nothing short of fantastic.
FWIW...

Funny, I think of myself as a something of a chick flick fan, but there's only a couple of movies mentioned above that I like (mostly cheaters like Bull Durham, Rocky Horror Show, and Resurrection). If that's a representative list (and I have no reason to doubt it) I guess I'm not a fan of the genre after all.

Somewhere In Time,
A time-travel fantasy with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour at the height of their beauty.
Ladyhawke,
A medieval form-shifting, curse-casting fantasy with Michelle Pfeiffer, Rutger Hauer, Matthew Broderick and the villian, John Wood.

Bull Durham is one of the greatest baseball movies out there.
And then again, my wife got the picture after Susan Sarandon tied up Tim Robbins, when she said, "this movie's not as much about baseball as it is about sex"...

How about my two favorite Glenda Jackson movies, Turtle Diary and Stevie? Would they count?

I have two friends, one a man and one a woman, who are dedicated enthusiasts of the uberchickflick genre, the Lifetime Original Presentation. These are after school specials for the Oprah set. Examples include She Sleeps with Danger and Not Without My Daughter (which I don't think was a Lifetime Original Presentation but, as my friends would both say in their gayass chickflick dialect, it is soooo a Lifetime Original Presentation).

Damn am I glad that this thread has nothing whatsoever to do with Chick Corea or L. Ron Hubbard.

I saw Sisters Keeper--it really didn't work for me. IN fact, I'm pretty sure I practically hated it.

I got a little choked up--it's unavoidable. But between Cameron Diaz, the little Breslin girl and Alec Baldwin spouting off some very 30 Rock-like quips which made me cringe a little due to the context, it was easy to remain mostly emotionally uninvolved.

I second that motion, but question the relevance...
Poor old Chick sold his soul for a mess of potage. He was great with Getz, Davis and Circle, but after the 'conversion' he was too smooth (although he did some worthwhile stuff, it just didn't have any cojones), and altogether too whimsical - liner notes from The Leprechaun anyone?
