Thanks, Bill -- no offense, but I was so sure of what this was going to be....

This video has been e-mailed to me at least ten times by dancers in the past few months. It's not bad, but I've seen much better. There are some really intricate tractor square dance videos from the 1950s, not sure if they're on line. This one does have the best opening, though -- the guy in drag with the flying mount!

I've never called for tractors. But I have called for Peruvian parade horses, prepping them for a national convention. I got them to do a weave the ring and a couples promenade easily enough. But any move that required them to walk backwards presented a problem -- the four old horses could do it, but the young ones were hesitant and did it too slowly for those moves to be used in a dance. Since those moves included The Grand Square -- the move we had hoped to feature-- as well as the basics Do Sa Do and Walk to the Middle and Back, it was a serious setback. Gorgeous horses, though! They'd kind of flick their forefeet a bit to side when they walked, so it looked like a strut. Maybe one of these days I'll get the right personnel, or horsennel.
