Music of Coltrane playlist

I have been putting together a playlist of Coltrane's music as played by other musicians. I'm concentrating on Trane's own compostions, if not exclusively.

Here's what I have so far:

1. “Naima”—Tyner
2. “Afro Blue”—McLaughlin
3. “Bessie’s Blues”—Tyner w. Blythe and Murray
4. “Equinox”—Gerald Wilson
5. “Impressions”—Jordan
6. “Lonnie’s Lament”--Tyner
7. “Blue Train”—Herwig
8. “After the Rain”—DeJohnette/Frisell
9. “Africa”—SF Jazz Collective
10. “Dear Lord”--Ray Anderson
11. “Resolution”—Marc Johnson
12. “Up Against the Wall”—Tyner
13. “Central Park West”—Ralph Peterson
14. “My Favorite Things”—Grant Gteen
15. “Distant Blossom”—Erskine and Lovano

I'm also planning adding something from Kenny Garrett's Trane album, as well as the new one by Steve Kuhn.

Suggestions are welcome.

Coltrane is almost certainly the most honored, emulated, and plain old copied jazz musician--so the additions could be quite extensive.

"Afro Blue" was composed by Mongo Santamaria.

“Distant Blossom”—Erskine and Lovano
The composer credit on this Peter Erskine CD is the pianist on the date Kenny Werner.

Not sure that Werner would have a song credit for a tune on a Coltrane (who died 42 years ago) recording.

David Murray covers a slew of Trane tunes

My fave might be Mr. PC with Dave Burrell, Fred Hopkins & Ralph Peterson

As I say, I'm not strictly doing Coltrane's own music. For example, "Distant Blossom" is highly reminiscent, to my ears, of Coltrane's sound on Crescent."

The Jordan I refer to is Stanley Jordan...very nice version of "Impressions."

I favor some of the stuff on "Special Quartet" by David Murray with Tyner and Elvin.

Unfortunately, I don't have "The Octet Plays Trane."

My guess is certainly one of the most covered of Trane's composition and a popular jam tune.

Since I was just listening to it the other day, I am gonna suggest

Mr. PC - von freeman & ed peterson, Von & Ed, Delmark.

and

After the Rain - Chico Freeman

I'd have to include Marilyn Crispell's version of Dear Lord in such a list.

There's a great Lew Tabackin "Wise One" on flute I heard on the radio years back.

I dig both Kenny Garrett's and John McLaughlin's albums of Trane covers.

I'm assuming Shepp's "Four for Trane" was the first Trane tribute album.

Rahsaan's "A Tribute to John Coltrane" from Volunteered Slavery and the rough, raw and very different "Coltrane Medley" from Brotherman in the Fatherland which includes "Blue Trane."

What about 'Impressions' by either Wes Montgomery or by Pat Martino? Both are quite good.
A second for the 'Interstellar Space' covers by Bendian/Cline- WOW!!!
