Hey Whats New ? Trevor Watts - The Deep Blue

One of the great creative, individualist alto, soprano saxists/composers from the UK, any fans on here ?

A solo recording featuring multitracked piano, synth, human percussion, electronic beats, and the man himself on his axes, overdubbing doesn't detract from the immediacy of the playing at all, like a one man big band at times,

any fans of Watts' excellent octet Celebration Band from a few years back will need to hear this

some vibrant grooves "Ghana Bop", "Uhuru Song" are Watts at his funkiest also there are rich melodic songs, starts with a lovely homage for Steve Lacy "Lace" and his own Celtic, North African tinged tunes show his fine composing skills.

if you have never heard of him still worth checking, great disc adds another exciting facet to Watts musical vision

what a dormant board, why is no-one into this ?? One of the best discs Ive heard all year, not made in America

here's not one thread on here about new music, not one discussion about music by a contemporary artist.

Lazy americans, no wonder jazz in the US is stale, look at all the posts still saving/shaving jazz

thanks for the links. listening to some of the samples as I type.

Contrary to what some detractors say, jazz in the US is anything else than stale. It would be nice if discussions of contemporary artists here would be a bit more lively. It's not completely missing. You will find it on the waylt, ecm forums and other places.

The save jazz discussions focus on the absence of audience and dollars.

I hear great jazz live every week. The problem is when there is only 6 or 7 other people who hear the same thing. None of them posts here. if I'd started a thread bout the great rhythm section of Jason Roebke and Frank Rosaly my thread would almost certainly face the same fate.
