'Occasional' drummers

I can think off hand of several instances on albums where somebody stepped up to the plate and laid down a serviceable rhythm. Here's mine, what're yours?
Jaco Pastorious - River People (Mr. Gone), perfectly serviceable four to the floor disco beat, on the Weather Report album with the most drummers and the least rep (although apparently it's getting re-evaluated critically in recent years)

Jan Hammer - Blue Wind (Wired). Fantastic energy on this track and the drumming suits it perfectly. Nice fills, t'riffically basic of course, but sometimes a Meg White stroke is what's needed. Of course Narada Michael Walden is pretty sterling (and wrote some great tunes for this album)

Off topic, but have to mention it;
Paul McCartney - Back in the U.S.S.R. and Dear Prudence. Lovely stuff, basic and to the point. Nice sound, particularly on the snare and hi-hats. Calls to mind John Lennon's surpassingly nasty remark when asked whether he agreed that Ringo was the best drummer in the world - 'Ringo's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!'

Gonzo m'man! Seriously uncool.
You oughta name tracks, give some background. And for another thing Prince and Stevie Wonder don't belong on that list - they're multi instrumentalists and have done whole albums with them playing all the instruments. 'S gotta be a one off.
Anyway, thanks for contributing though.

Didn't both Lionel Hampton and Merv Griffin start out as drummers?

The excellent jazz pianist Jack DeJohnette is also pretty damn good at the drum set.

All right then, if no-one's going to take this seriously...
Seems this one's a non starter.

I think many vibes players started out either as drummers or piano players, at least in the old days. Hamp on drums, Bags on piano, etc.

Well then, looks like gonzo only got 2 out of 6 actually fulfilling the requirements - a hit rate of 33.3 (recurring)%
