A Matter Of Blood

As many of you already know, I am not an "Out" Jazz kinda guy.

My tastes tend to run along the lines of BeBop, Hard Bop and Post Bop.

But the latest CD by Dennis Gonzales has a Hard Bop edge loaded with some really Out stuff that is very listenable, IMHO. Some very workable melodies and Jazz phrases which will intrigue even the most ardent of anti-Out Jazz types. I count myself as one, but this is one CD that is just plain good stuff. Dennis' trumpet work is always a pleasure to listen to...his Old Time Revival CD is another prime example. As always, the music is very clean sounding and fresh.

This is definitely a CD worth giving a listen to, IMHO.

No kidding.

Thanks, Tim, for starting this thread. Some people have commented over on my thread about A Matter of Blood, and everything I've seen is very positive. I have an edited review posted here from Henrik Kaldahl of JazzNet Denmark.

Our colleague Stephane Berland, now the head of the much-lauded Ayler Records, has just released the live CD with my boys (Dennis Gonzalez Yells At Eels) called The Great Bydgoszcz Concert. Let me know if you want a copy by clicking here!

Consider it done, Dennis.

I'm on Dennis' mailing list so I usually get his recordings straight out of the oven. I highly recommend this CD.
