Nat Catchpole
I wasn't sure exactly where to put this, so I started a new thread...
just saw a very impressive looking trio gig for our young friend Nat listed for next month in London:
10/22: RYANS: flim flam presents Nat Catchpole, Louis Moholo & John Edwards 8.30pm. £5/£3.
other relevant topics here could be either of Nat's Matchless discs, especially the new one which I haven't heard yet, or how his girlfriend is far cuter than he deserves...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The vicar's son has gotten to be a hell of a sax player over the last couple years. I don't know if its all the talent he's been hanging around with or the English "cooking."
I think "Ninetet" (or whatever the hell it's called) is pretty good, but that it's far from the best stuff that's gonna be turned out by Mr. Catchpole over the next 65 years or so.

What Walto said. But if it's the English cooking, it's from skipping meals to practice.
And she is cuter than Nat deserves.
Looking forward to the new one, Nat. Mr Moholo, no less! Great going, man.

Outstanding news, Nat! On your girlfriend, that is (the gig sounds good too).
Hey, I'm going to be in London from 10/14-10/20 - sad that I can't make the gig, but let me know offlist if you want to hang out and/or play a bit.

Moholo! Nice.
I agree with Walt's review of the Nonet album. I'm really looking forward to the new one. If the chance-taking, adventurousness, skill, and serious devotion to sound exploration are any indication of what's to come from Nat (and that whole batch of musicians), then we're in for some good listening in the future.

Where can we find Nat's albums? I didn't even know he'd recorded any, as the last I remember he was far from recording.

Doug,
They're both on the Matchless label. I'm sure there are other places, but Forced Exposure has them. Go to their web site (obvious url) and search for Catchpole.
I'm still waiting for Nat to record a solo elk call piece.

Ahh, I'm touched.
Yes, I'm very much looking forward to that gig. Haven't played with Louis before, and I have a feeling he may not have heard me play, at all, although I could be wrong, so hopefully it will all pan-out well. Reminds me I should call him to make sure it's still on.....
The none(-t) CD has had one niceish review in the Wire, and one badly written but very positive review from Cadence, but nothing else I know about so far (let me know if you see stuff, please). Conditions has been out a couple of weeks now. Any shilling on behalf of either of them much appreciated. My undeservedly cute girlfriend's CD is coming out in a month or so as well (one solo piano piece, and one accompanying a singer on composer Armand Qualliotine's forthcoming CD). So things are going pretty well in general.
Cask conditioned beer in London - best pub I know is the Market Porter, Borough Market, London Bridge tube station - 15 beers on tap, more in bottles, changeover every couple of weeks.
Ya'll should know by now I don't touch English food, apart from Fish and Chips, Pie and Mash, Eels and Mash, Cheese, Beer (damn, that's nearly a complete list).
Thanks for starting the thread Jon.
Oh yeah, Uli. Shoko says she doesn't look anything like that. Who dat anyway?

Doug, they're available from a few distributors (web search on my name and Matchless ought to do it), but as far as I remember, I owe you at least one of them as trade for yours. I only have one each at the moment, but e-mail me anyway, since I do actually go to the Post Office sometimes, unlike someone else.
I'd been keeping schtum hoping that someone would start a thread up (only took three months guys!!), and had considered posing as an intern from Matchless and posting 19 different versions of the same thread on different parts of the board and elsewhere, but thought better of it, hence the lack of announcements.

Sergio,
I did do a solo recording session in the vault of the Foundry (bar, used to be a bank) about a year ago. The DAT distorted when I tried to transfer it to my PC, but I'm informed by the guy who recorded it (who doesn't own a CD burner) that it came out well, pretty sure there was some Elk Calls on it, so you never know. Assuming I ever actually hear the damn thing (reminds me of some other recordings I've never heard, some guy in Maine...)

That's Brigitte Bardot. I didn't think that your girlfriend looks like her but as classic a beauty as Brigitte was she should have some things in common. And you should know by now, that I don't give too much of a hoots on aebly's taste on anything.

What's "Brigitte Bardot" in Japanese?
Can you post a picture of your girl-friend so the less fortunate among us will be able to judge whether or not you are worthy of her?

It's on Stoke Newington Church Street - a block westwards of the Vortex. The gigs are in the basement which backs on to their beer garden. It's a nice room.

Shrugs, you had me excited for a minute - Stoke is a town in North England, Stoke Newington is a neighbourhood of North London...
We have cows in England too Goodspeak.
Yeah Mwanji - we sound completely different. You can still watch Seymour on the BBC's FOTC website. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio3/jazz/jon...cprogmon.shtml
Having said that, it's not always possible to distinguish the saxophones/trumpet from the pianists, electronics or guitar, or not consistently.

(a disgruntled ex-Mancunian writes)
Aint that just a typical London attitude? Just 'cos it's north of Watford Gap doesn't make it the North. Stoke (on Trent) is most definitely in the Midlands - Staffordshire to be precise.

Seems like that list would make it worth the trip.

Yes, although I'm not a member, and haven't been to a beer festival for years. Microbrews are available through Pitfield Beer shop, and on tap at the Market Porter, so there's plenty of sources, even without a festival.
I did a gig drinking Dogs Bollocks once at a beer festival.

Ever been to the Wenlock Arms, Nat? It's not far from Pitfield Street and is (I believe) the only pub in the world to have thier beers on draught. Also has a oft-changing selection of other beers.
It is a rancid little hole though. I like my pubs traditional, but...

No, but didn't Birdyak play there a lot?
The Foundry has Pitfield on Tap (only the lager, the rest bottled).
