The Bad Plus-Live

I got a chance to see two great concerts in the past week, one was the Bad Plus. It was an amazing show, the intensity they have on they're album was magnified several times over. They went pretty seamlessly from ornette coleman, to black sabbath like it was nothing. The originals were strongest though, drummer David King absolutely killed (He's a funny guy too). Strangely, they opened for Garage a Trois- a Charlie Hunter/Galatic side project. Talk about underwhelming! Bad Plus put them to shame by playing, you know like, DYNAMICS! Great show by the Bad Plus though.....

Yeah, this was an amazing, amazing show. Everything they did, they did great and musically. I was especially impressed by how on Every Breath You Take they build the climax of the song to an intense pianissimo, basically climaxing in silence. Dave King is such an inspiration, no matter how complex the shit he's playing is he is always so emotionally involved in the tunes...he can play so quietly while his body looks like he's bashing. The new originals were excellent too, especially Reid Anderson's tunes.
