Bill Clinton Should Have Told the Truth...

..because it turns out that Repubs are okay with sexual activity outside of marriage so long as you don't lie about it. It wasn't about the blow job, it was because he lied. As of today, Ahhhnold is a changed man. No more groping on "raunchy movie sets." No more group sex either, I guess. No more drugs. No more nude photo sessions.

People are so in love with celebrity that they will vote for Ahhhnold just to be close to his starshine. Touching the button next to his name in that voting booth will be almost like attending an A-List Hollywood party. Ahhhnold is a he-man, he doesn't take any crap from anyone, he's Mr. Badass. Men wish they were him, women wish their men were him. He announced his candidacy on Leno. A man of the people. He knows where to find the people, not at CSPAN where you have to respond to constitutuents, but on a comedy talk show where you can bullshit your way through a "bit." It's as if someone has sprayed catnip in front of a mob of swooning felines. Or sucked up too much ecstasy. The man is crap on a cracker and because he admits it, it's okay. Vote for me. I know nothing, I'm a sleazebag, and I'll never lie about it. Well, it seems the bar has been put on the floor. If you can slither over the bar, the brass ring be yours.

Welcome to America!

I've never, for a moment, wished I were Arnold Schwarzenegger, nor has my wife, I can assure you. Having said that, I agree with the thrust of your post, RD. What a pompous ass. And what fools are blindly following him.

Hypocrisy rules!

Schwarzenegger 'sorry' amid fresh harassment claims

Film star Arnold Schwarzenegger has apologised for behaving badly towards women after fresh claims surfaced that he groped and humiliated Hollywood colleagues.

The Republican movie star's stunning apology for his "rowdy" behaviour of movie sets came just five days before a vote that pollsters this week predicted would see the former bodybuilder elected governor of California.

Mr Schwarzenegger, speaking to supporters in San Diego as he kicked off a colourful campaign bus tour of the Golden State, tacitly acknowledged acting inappropriately as The Los Angeles Times published interviews with six women who claimed he had fondled and upset them over the last three decades.

"Yes I have behaved badly some times," the actor said, stunning political observers as his frenzied campaign to replace embattled Democratic Governor Gray Davis in the October 7 recall vote entered its final stage.

"Yes, it is true that I was on rowdy movie sets and I have done things that were not right, that I thought were playful but now I recognise that I have offended people.

"And those people that I have offended: I want to say I am deeply sorry about that and I apologise."

While dismissing the fresh allegations of sexual harassment as trash politics, the brawny superstar appealed directly to female voters who could hold the key to his political future.

"I'll be a champion for women," he pledged.

"Give me chance to prove that."

The six women told the Times that the film star had touched them sexually without their permission on movie sets, in studio offices and other cinema industry locations over the past 30 years.

The women, most of whom spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed the True Lies star and Republican candidate had fondled their breasts, tried to undress them and engaged in sexually graphic banter with them.

"Did he rape me? No," one woman was quoted as saying of a 1980 encounter in which she said Mr Schwarzenegger allegedly touched her breast.

"Did he humiliate me? You bet he did."

The potentially damaging allegations came after Mr Schwarzenegger surged ahead in opinion polls to win next week's gubernatorial elections, with two surveys giving him 40 percent of votes against 25 percent for his nearest rival, Democratic deputy governor Cruz Bustamante.

Three of the women alleged that the actor grabbed their breasts, a fourth claimed he reached under her skirt and gripped her buttocks, while another said Mr Schwarzenegger had tried to remove her bathing suit in a hotel lift.

The final alleged victim of unwanted sexual attention said the former bodybuilding champion pulled her onto his lap and asked whether a certain sexual act had ever been performed on her.

One of the incidents is alleged to have taken place in the 1970s when Mr Schwarzenegger was in his bodybuilding heyday, two more occurred in the 1980s, another two in the 1990s and one in 2000, the paper said.

Three of the women making the latest claims against the actor still work in Hollywood and fear that their livelihoods could be jeopardised if their identities became known.

Mr Schwarzenegger's campaign could not immediately be reached for comment on the allegations, but spokesman Sean Walsh told the Times the candidate had never behaved improperly towards women and dismissed the attack as politically motivated.

"We believe Democrats and others are using this to try to hurt Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign," Walsh said.

The issue of Mr Schwarzenegger's alleged misogyny has become a major issue in his campaign and prompted women's groups to protest against his drive on the grounds that he did not respect women.

Other claims that Mr Schwarzenegger groped women, took part in orgies, smoked marijuana and boasted of sleeping with unattractive women if they satisfied him sexually dogged the start of his campaign.

But in recent days, after appearing in the only candidates' debate last week and getting his Kennedy-clan wife Maria Shriver to campaign for him, Mr Schwarzenegger appeared to have shaken off the damaging allegations.

The republicans would have roasted his butt anyway.

They were digging up any little piece of dirt they could possibly find to bang Clinton over the head. They were talking impeachment even before he took the Oath of Office, for pete's sake.

They tried to nail him on Whitewater and failed. They tried to nail him on Paula Jones and failed. They tried to nail his wife on Foster's suicide and failed. Even after he left office they went after his attorney privledges.

No. A witch hunt is never satisfied.

He should have at least admitted that his real name was Rin Clinton. Or Nint Clinton.

Must be the same booger-eating morons who sit around and watch shows like Entertainment Tonight and can't wait to gossip about it with their idiot friends. Apparently it is a nationwide phenomena--they elected a WRESTLER in Minnesota. Schwarzeneggar isn't even the speaker Jesse Ventura is--at least "The Body" sounds convincing. Ahhhnold's consistently stumbling speech reminds me of Dubya's--and the powers that be appointed that friggin' dibshid president.

This is what happens when people trade in reading the newspaper for watching television news--TV news is a sad excuse for journalism. They are politically selective. You have CNN leaning left, Fox leaning right, and neither one of them standing up for what journalism is supposed to be about--TRUTH-SEEKING. They should be representing reality, not spin.

Just the facts, Ma'am.

Welcome to America!

An insightful thread & post from Rainy Day.

The election of Jesse Ventura taught me that virtually anything is possible in the American political arena. This follows a recent pattern that has included the likes of George Murphy, Fred Grandy, Ronald Reagan and even Jim Bunning. It continues to amaze me how strong the power of media exposure is in terms of having been seen on TV or in motion pictures. Arnold is but the latest who is merely capitalizing on his name, media exposure and celebrity.

steve(thelil) is always on message!

Rainy,

For what it's worth, I think you are right. Bill Clinton should have told the truth. To his wife, to the camera lens, to the court--certainly to the court! If he had done that, he would have drawn hell from the Republicans who were attacking him for political purposes (duh), but I bet any scandals would have been shorter lived and not have ended up with his impeachment.

Well, in that case...you would be wrong, JMJ.

Some of us actually believed in the man and what he stood for. We had hoped that one day our country might rise above all this corporate and partisan bullshit and really make a difference in the world. Some of us actually had the unmitigated gall to think people could indeed live in harmony, work TOGETHER and make it better for ALL of us.

Apparently, some of us misjudged the abject hatred and ethically corrupt thinking of the radical right and how much they really do disparage love of humanity, equality and fairness.

Clinton stood for that and showed us the way:

Respect Life.

Affirm Humanity.

Love One Another.

So they set out and destroyed him and all of our dreams for a better and caring America.

And now we are on the verge of One Party Rule, hatred of all things Liberal, the destruction of kindness and the uplifting of greed, respect for material wealth, destruction of the human soul...loss of the environment. Disdain for independent thought. Money and control replaces forbearance and hope.

Spurred on by glorious and jaded ignorance...rampent distrust; Religious zealots hell bent for revenge against the Left. Love means nothing. Tolerance is just a word found in the dictionary. Nobody cares anymore.

Power and greed all couched in a pseudo christian reverance to God Almighty...and it saddens me, deeply. The church has become a horrible republican tool for the New Ethnic Cleansing: rid us, Dear God, of all the Liberals.

Martin Luther King, a Liberal, then, is evil.

Demon-crats are evil.

Free Speech is evil.

Civil Rights are evil.

My preacher told me so.

And if this is heaven...send me to hell.

America has lost it's way.

I too could have had a certain respect for Clinton had he told the truth but I think the litigation he was involved in at the time--what was that woman's name?--was the strongest factor in his obvious evasion and from that point of view I can understand his action--as an extenuating circumstance, not that I think it was right. Had his cadence on "that woman" been well-executed would not have defused the time bomb created by his actions though. His way gave people the opportunity to latch onto denial if they so chose.

Are you honestly going to dismiss an ENTIRE presidency because of one sexual misdeed?

Really?

Please don't make me recite for you the vast, huge and entirely significant accomplishments of the Clinton Adiministration, because you know as well as I do that that BJ completely pales in comparison.

Gimme a break.

Goody, you can't possibly be naive enough to think that Clinton performed one (and only one) naughty (not to mention illegal, according to legislation he signed into law) act, was caught, and got religion. If so, you are a hopeless boob.
