Jimmy Giuffre, Thesis

A quick question--on the ECM reissue of Thesis & Fusion it says there's some previously unreleased material but doesn't say which tracks. I needed to know--in particular if "Goodbye" was on the original LP or not.

I can dig out the lp's this week and list the tracks. I know someone else asked me before and I was too lazy to do it.

Important reissue alert!

October 2003 — January 2004:

hatOLOGY 2-595
Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley & Steve Swallow
Emphasis & Flight, 1961

Total time 114:37, ADD, Barcode: 752156059523

It would be wrong to say that this trio was ahead of its time, though their methods have proven invaluable to the musicians who have followed, since they were so much of their time, a time when a breath of fresh air blew through all the arts and created an enthusiasm of energy, an acceptance of new modes of expression. Swallow, Bley, and Giuffre’s remarkable musicianship, intellect, invention, and empathy created timeless music of significance and deep feeling. — Art Lange

I consider Emphasis the creme de la creme of this group's work.

Here are the tracks on the original LP issue of "Thesis":

Side One
Ictus
That´s True, That´s True
Sonic
Whirrrr

Side Two
Carla
Goodbye
Flight
The Gamut

I don´t have "Fusion" on vinyl so I leave that over to Shrugs.

"Fusion"

Scootin' About
Jesus Maria
Emphasis
On the Morning of the Mountain
Cry, Want
Trudgin'
Used to Be
Brief Hesitation
Venture

For whatever reason, "On the Morning of the Mountain" and "Used to Be" appear to have been renamed "In the Mornings Out There" and "Afternoon" on the CD issue; Also, tracks have been reordered. Anyone have the scoop on this?

Back to Nate's original question: "Me Too" and "Temporarily" (a Carla Bley tune) are the extra tracks on the Thesis CD.

Nope but maybe it was ECM that chose to reorder the tracks. Lots of reissues have been reordered.
