Need to buy more cool Jazz CDs

What I have, is a collection of Cds from Nat King Cole to Kenny G, Charlie's Parker (Ornithology) to wedding songs.

My problem is that in my little country Cyprus, there is a lack of large CD stores that you can satisfy your very own Jazz preferences.

I like soft, easy swing jazz, a bit of techno wouldn't be a problem, that is easy to even play on your own piano etc.

Please bare in mind that my prefferences are not restricted in the USA boundaries. I really believe that cool jazz exists in all the COOL open cultures in the world. So some international recommendations are needed at this point.

Thanks for your attention

Alex

Alex,

Are you familiar with Antonio Carlos Jobim or Joao Gilberto from Brazil? I'd recommend Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto's "Getz/Gilberto" (which I just listened for the first last week, btw) if you don't have it.

I would add basically anything with/by Paul Desmond or Gerry Mulligan. They recorded one together in 1957 as part of a quartet which is very fine "Gerry Mulligan Quartet With Paul Desmond". Other recs would be:

Paul Desmond - Easy Living

Terence Blanchard - Jazz In Film

Benny Carter - Further Definitions

Nat King Cole - Best of the Instrumental 1943-1949 (prior to his career as crooner)

John Coltrane - with Johnny Hartman

Sonny Criss - Birth Of The New Cool

Art Farmer - Blame It On My Youth

Stan Getz - Best Of The West Coast Sessions (1955-1957)

Ahmad Jamal - Nature: Essence Part III

Franz Koglmann - We Thought About Duke

John Lewis - Wonderful World Of Jazz

That's probably too many and I'm only up to L so I'll stop. If you want my recs. for M-Z I'll be happy to oblige.

Welcome

Hi Alex,

are you familiar with any of aebly's jazz? Maybe a generation or so removed form techno. I read on your other thread that you are much interested in socialisation. People here talk a lot about it and the fans of it are as good a group as any to share experiences with.
