I love Gonzalez, but let's not forget that Chano Dominguez has been doing this for maybe 10 years, and that Michel Camilo's collaboration with Tomatito was three years ago. The heralding has been done. My beef is not with Gonzalez, but with the PR hyperbolists.

El Cigala did that wonderful collaboration with Bebo Valdes that I kvelled about on the Latin Jazz thread.

ULI

I'm with you. I've known Jerry for many years and there's definitely an irony in Absolut sponsoring
Ft Apache. BTW FT Apache's records on Conjure go back more than 10 years and were simply awesome as well as their stuff on Sunnyside.

Hate to disappoint you, Uli, but I'm a big Jerry Gonzalez fan. His 'Ya Yo Ma Cure' on American Clave is one of my favorite Latin Jazz albums ever.
