I would replace some of the above choices with Bob Wilber and Kenny Davern.
I might also include Johnny Hodges.

I'm not so sure about Lucky Thompson, either. I love his tenor playing, but the little I have heard of his soprano I didn't like at all.
not too many contemporary cats focus on the soprano, but an exception is Sam Newsome. His recordings are a mixed bag, but wonderful at their best, and he has a very beautiful and distinctive sound. Michael Blake plays soprano only part time, but he's also got a great distinctive original sound. Among purely straight-ahead players, Steve Wilson excels on soprano.

Lucky Thompson's soprano playing is supreme
add Charles Wharf to the list - one record and one track on soprano has me on the team....

Barney Wilen had his own sound on soprano in the 50's, when just a few cats were playing it.

I always liked Jimmy Heath sound on soprano.
Zoots too!
Today, in this century, it's Tim Garland.

Wow, I miss Chris Albertson's presence here sometimes. I realize that I'm in the minority on that subject, but ...
While not often heard on it, I can assure you that Jim Pepper had a wonderful, unique sound on that horn.

I loved Gerry Niewood's playing, and his tone. Bob Sheppard sounds great to me, as does George Young. Wayne is probably my favorite.

That's certainly the beginning of my list. From there I'd go (not necessarily in order):
-Garbarek
-Jane Ira Bloom
-Branford Marsalis

Bob Wilbur and Kenny Davern did a couple of duo lps. They were in such sync, both of them heavily influenced by Bechet.
In fact, I understand that Bob Wilbur studied with Bechet.
