Hi, Carol! Great to have you here!

I love your album "Love You Madly" madly. You, Art Farmer, Clifford Jordan, Kenny Barron, Kenny Burrell and the rest of the band all sound terrific, and you do several of my favorite songs -- I Could Have Told You So, For All We Know, That Old Devil Called Love, etc.

But the song from the album that REALLY gets me is 'I Wish I'd Met You,' which I'd never heard before. Or since for that matter. Mostly a gorgeous duet with Kenny Burrell, although I think there's a bass player in there, too. What can you tell me about the song? Seems like an underrated treasure.

Love You Madly by Carol Sloane

To SquareDanceCallingSteve:

Thank you for your kind remarks.

You inquire about the song "I Wish I'd Met You" on my cd of the above title. It was written by Johnny Mandel, Richard Rodney Bennett and Franklin Underwood, and has been recorded by Chris Connor, Sammy Davis, Jr., and Lena Horne among others. Published by Marissa Music in LA. -Carol Sloane

Hi Carol:

I've been a big fan of yours ever since the 60s when I met you while I was working with w/ Frank D'Rone ( as a drummer/arranger ) at a place in Prividence RI.. ( the name of which I have long forgotten ), I'm really glad you're still active ..and I love your later releases ..

Does the "Marissa Music" you referred to have anything to do with Marissa Dodge/ Bartlett? ..she's a songwriter friend of mine with a lot of talent , (now living in Tyler TX ..which is awfully near the LA border )

Speaking of new material, I can put you in touch with another friend of mine in Seattle ( June Tonkin ) who has a whole raft of good material that is not over exposed , and fairly sophisticaed in nature..contact me off list if you might be interested ,and I'll put you in touch with her.

Cheers:

Phil Kelly

( former drummer/ arranger for several people you might be familiar with ..now happily semi -retired in the NW )
