How *not* to commit suicide (another in the "how not to" series)........

It's bad enough that you feel suicidal, but it's really rubbing salt in the wounds when you think up a novel way to do the act and it backfires:

Roofer found covered in tar, thinner in motel tub

by Laurel J. Sweet
Wednesday, November 12, 2003

A 48-year-old roofer was found late yesterday morning coated in a suit of tar and paint thinner in a bathtub at the Sandwich Motor Lodge on Route 6A.

The man, whose face was left uncovered, was rushed by helicopter to a Boston hospital suffering from burns.

State police detectives assigned to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe's office are investigating the case as an apparent suicide attempt.

Sandwich police said he had ``local connections,'' but they were unclear how long he'd been in the area.

An employee at the motel declined comment.>>

It's really sad how desperate people can get.

I did some work for a landfill some years back and they told me a story about touring a site in NY and they asked about the guards set up on the balers that were unusual. They were told they had to put them in to keep people from throwing themselves into the baler in order to commit suicide. For those who aren't familiar with balers used at landfills they use hydraulic cylinders to compress the garbage. It would be death by slow crushing, I can't imagine wanting to die that way.

Ah, the days of Jack Kevorkian, one of Royal Oak's finest. I hear Geoffrey Fieger is taking the reins in Kevo's legal campaign again, since he didn't win the governatorial (I refuse to call it "gubernatorial") election last time around. Ol' Jack could kill you the *right* way if you could persuade him you had it coming.

Thanks to Kevorkian and the post office massacre, Royal Oak was almost as famous for people dying as Detroit is for a while there.

Off topic and making little sense,
Larry

Back in the day when you were allowed to smoke in the office, a guy I worked with chain smoked all day. He tried to quit using the patch, but kept smoking like a chimney. It killed him! The patch did, that is....Warning...any smokers wanting to quit with the patch, rip the fucker off if you have to fire up. Nicotine overdose induced a massive heart attack. Wasn't suicide, but in a way it was a reckless self-imposed homicide.

Smoking cigarettes is a form of suicide. No one ever said suicide has to happen quickly. You can also commit suicide by doing things that will make you slowly choke to death in great pain.

Breathing kills you too, as the oxygen eats away at the very fabric of your being. What a paradox.

I knew a guy once whose father was a shrink. He told about a patient who tried to commit suicide by sitting on a hot radiator.

M -- Perhaps, but not in the same way, nor is breathing oxygen something that one chooses, as one chooses suicide. Viewed in that light, being born is a form of suicide.

Or giving birth is murder. Some mothers might agree.

There was a tragic case of a suicide/accidental death, which took place in a house my brother owns.
The man who rented the basement apartment decided he was going to end it all. He attached a hose to the exhaust of his car and threaded it in through one of his his windows.
The houses where my brother lives, in central B.C. are virtually airtight in the winter, with no open windows.
The fumes were successful in effecting the death of the man in the basement apartment, but they also killed the family who lived on the main floor.
Idiot. Nobody was charged, since the perpetrator was dead. Very sad.
