Any comments on this guy?

I've been enjoying "Background Music" (with Mats Gustafsson ). "Elipsis" and "Faktura". A fine clarinetist, sax player and composer.

"Faktura" is on HatNow and is mostly "composed" stuff with small and larger groupings of some of the best Chicago musicians. "Background Music" is, sort of, a take on west coast, cool school jazz (maybe by way of Morton Feldman). "Elipsis" as a quintet with Jim O'Rourke, Gene Colemen, Carrie Biolo (a wonderful percussionist who is also on "Faktura") and bassist Michael Cameron.

All of these recordings lean toward the reflective and quiet side, somewhat, but not in the ECM sense.

I think I've listened to "Faktura" the most.

Check 'em out.

I haven't gotten around to his albums as leader, but I've enjoyed his contributions to the two Art Lange-led recordings on hatology, Braxton's "Compositions 10 + 16 (+101)" and Cornelius Cardew's "Treatise", both of which I'd very highly recommend.

I just bought "Treatise" off of ebay yesterday, mostly based on an AMG review by some snooty arty type.
