well guess ill do it myself, so this falls in the great group of second favorite butcher cd which includes about ten who all follow the contest of pleasures which is my favorite. it has moments of really great beauty, but also sometimes medicrity for butcher standards where they go free jazz auto pilate. i have had different responses during different listenes and think moments of non complete satisfaction come from my evloved personal prefrences not the quality of the music. that said as much as i love john butcher i finally have reached a point where a new disk sounded redundant in parts and no new ground or surprises really in it.

Have you heard Invisible Ear? That's almost all stuff I hadn't heard before from Butcher, although he has apparently been playing feedback and close-miked tenor and soprano sax since the early 80s. It just wasn't recorded. Oh, and I love the CD -- some of the feedback tenor sounds like a very engaging hybrid of regular tenor (as far as tone goes) and blues harmonica.
