Robert Lockwood Jr. @ Fat Fish Blue

Last night Mrs. Hate's office had a party in which they rented out Fat Fish Blue (a club that is just around the corner from where I work) for their Christmas party. I *had* to go and I figured that I could always get hammered if the gig was too dull; but scratch that, because Robert Johnson's stepson and his band were providing musical entertainment. He plays at the club pretty regularly so it wasn't a major change in venue for him. And it's not like he's playing anything different than he did when I first came to Cleveland 30+ years ago. But it is still a joy to see him getting it done with no falling off of talent whatsoever.

Back when I first saw him I thought, "This guy isn't gonna be around forever; I'm glad I caught him." Maybe he will be around forever; I think he's still playing the same 12-string that I saw way back when. After the slight buzz produced by Martin Scorcese's tv tribute, this is what it's all about.

But in the fifties he played more modern than he does now.
