If you have a fast connection...SIXTH track

The sixth track, NYBlues, from my upcoming CD is now online at http://www.thelisteningsessions.com/jazzooo.htm

I did post this in the thread about the first song, but the title of that thread is no longer accurate.

I hope it grooves you to some degree.

Doug

It does groove indeed! I dig the arrangement/pauses and hits in the head...very hip. Doug, your phrasing intrigues me.

Doug, when I clicked on the link above (moments ago), here's what I got:

Error 404 | File not found

I'm getting the error right now too, Ron--thanks for pointing it out. THe web guy must be working on it or something, because Chad got in there a while ago. I'll keep you posted, thanks!

Ok, it's fixed now. I accidentally included a period at the end of htm in the link. Bad Doug. Anyway, Ron--I'm particularly charmed by the interplay between drums and piano during my solo. Tell me what you think.

Yeh actually when I saw this post originally, I was already at thelisteningsessions/Jazzooo page so I didn't go through that link.
Those Soprano drums are gorgeous and great sounding as well. I prefer a more open bass drum sound, but that's only personal preference/tuning preference, not a comment on recording quality.

Doug, there's a nice atmosphere to the sound...a sense of air. Maybe it's the imaging/stereo field overall? I'm not well-versed in these matters...it seems open and not as confined as some other (contemporary) trio recordings I've been listening to lately. They all vary, of course.

Thanks, Doug. Things are crazy here during the holidays, but it's a good kind of crazy.

I'll check in again with an opinion, soon.

Chad, the openness of the sound comes from two things:

we did not use much, if any, compression. There's a tad of it on the left hand of the piano in LizBarber and on one of the bass signals (a mic and a pickup).

The drum overheads are Earthworks, either QTC1s (LizBarber) or SR77s (NYBlues). Phenomenal mics that capture all the air around the notes.

Doug, thank you for making those mp3's available. I found the music very enjoyable (perfect for an early morning listen) and the recording quality is excellent. It kind of reminded me of Bill Evans during his Riverside years (a complement to you!). I will definitely consider picking up the CD when it becomes available.
