Orgasmic with Joy

Alright, maybe not quite. But I just got The Complete Ella Fitzgerald Songbooks, Four Mosaic Selects (Grachan Moncur III, Randy Weston, Bennie Green, Paul Chambers) and two Mosaic Box Sets (Byrd/Adams and Gerry Mulligan). Granted, that sets me about 450 dollars back, but I'm young and stupid, and that's the time to make such purchases. And it really is a lot of music, and hopefully listening pleasure.

Just sharing my delight. Whee.

But to the rest of you:
Do you ever make elaborate purchases, just because you get carried away?

I'd be very interested to read your comments about them at some point. I'm close to doing about half of what you did, namely I want the Mulligan, Pepper Adams, Horace Parlan, and Bix/Tram/Teag. boxes, and will get them all in one fell swoop.

Heck you may as well have an orgasm with all that wonderful music in your lap. The endorphin rush when opening and handling these purchases is part of the fun for me too.

Young and stupid? Young, maybe... Heck, almost everyone's young compared to me, man. Stupid? Definitely not! Some pretty darned good taste in purchases, I'd say. If you'd dropped $400+ on forgettable pop stuff, I might have a different opinion. Hey, keep us posted on reactions to the Moncur especially.

Walter -- Ask Nat. He can tell you.

TMM -- You have a serious pile of booty, there, young man. Enjoy. I have the Randy Weston Mosaic, which is great, and all of the individual recordings that make up the Grachan Moncur set. You have a mind waiting to be blown, jarhead. You know your mission.

Bill -- Great crack about how almost everyone's younger than you. I feel your pain, dude. I spend most of my time these days with people who could easily be my kids. And I'm still younger than you! :-)

Yeah, maybe I should start a special thread for comments from people who are older than myself... Heck, I know there are at least one or two on the board!

In any case, Happy Holidays to all, and happy listening TMM!

It's tough. In the past I have made elaborate purchases because I got carried away (but regrettably, this is before I discovered jazz music), but these days I have to restrain myself as much as possible. I'm young, I'm stupid, but I'm also married and I have a baby girl and we're trying to save for a house, so I'm likely to get myself in trouble with the missus if I go out and buy a lot of music all at once.

MusicalMarine, I envy you in your joy. But do enjoy it! Sounds like you have excellent taste.

Marine,
I bought the Ella set as a gift a few years back for my daughter who loves singers, and she was ALMOST as delighted as you. It's great to sense your excitement about the music! Don't go broke on us now;-)) Happy Holidays to all!!
