Don Lamond - R.I.P.

I saw on another list that the Great Woody Herman Drummer of the late 40s Second Herd, Don Lamond died at a nursing facility in Florida ,where he'd live and worked for many years prior to his death.

He was 83

Thats really bad news ..Don was one of my early influences and a drummer and I find it great that he was still able to perfom in FL as long as did ..

an other great one gone ..RIP, Don

Phil Kelly

Sorry to hear that, Phil. Yes, a master at what he did, one of the all-time great drummers!

Funnily enough I mostly know him for his appearance on George Russell's Jazz in the Space Age, not being well versed in the Herds. Anyway, sorry to hear of Lamond's passing.

i heard something about a famous musican's recent death on the radio today but, because of very poor reception, couldn't hear the name. mention was made of this drummer's living in europe and serving in the army as a young man and playing with oscar peterson. is don who they were talking about? sorry, but i'm not that familiar with him. thought they might talking about someone else whose name i don't want to mention.

Don was one of a handful of drummers who caught my attention in the late 50's. I enjoyed both his big band and small ensemble playing. He was always tasteful and innovative ... and for a period spanning over 60 years. Incredible!

Here's a very informative article concerning Don's career.

RIP, Don Lamond~
