playing at fast tempos

Hi Guys,
every musician know that playing on a fast tune doesn't mean that you have to play fast lines.
For a thesis I write , I'm looking for the ultimate example from the jazz legends:
playing slow , melodic and interesting on a burner.
everyone talk about miles, jim hall and J J johnson as those kind of players, but maybe because I don't have many recording I still could not found a very good example of this idea.
Please help me ,
Thanks

Interesting topic. I heard Walter Bishop Jr. playing short phrases during his piano solo on an up-tempo Charlie Parker recording the other day. It sounded relaxed and easy compared to continuos eighth notes at that tempo. It was on "Lover" on the Complete Verve Master Takes.

Don't forget "space" as well as "long ( legato ) lines"

i.e: Ahmad Jamal, Miles. Basie

BTW: you should specify soloists in your thesis ..Bassists and drummers don't have
the luxury of these musical devices to a great extent ..aside from the
occasional "stop time " device ...
