This is a very insightful article about the state of the musicals on Broadway. Some extremely interesting observations about the problems of composers and lyricists and the fact that Broadway has very little memorable original music these days. There are many revivals and many "compilation" shows. One thing that is said a couple of times by composers in the article is that Broadway musicals used to be written in the popular music of the day. The composers mention rap as the popular music of the day, which changes the cultural milieu in which Broadway musicals exist. As it stands, there IS NO current Broadway style (so say many folks in the article.
Anyway, jazz is mentioned as a style that is underrepresented on the current Broadway scene.
Anyway, it's interesting and I wanted to point it out---especially to the song lovers and to the composers.
