Jazz Journalists Award Nominees Announced

New York -- The Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) Jazz Awards 2003, the seventh annual presentation of honors to jazz musicians and their supporters by the organization representing more than 400 writers, broadcasters, photographers and new media professionals worldwide, announces its complete list of nominees in 40 categories of achievement.

The longest running, comprehensive industry-wide jazz awards program will be held on Tuesday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., at B.B. Kingıs Blues Club and Grill in New York City, in benefit of the Musicians Emergency Fund of the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA).

A gallery of photographs nominated for Jazz Photo of the Year at http://www.Jazzhouse.org as well as the complete list of 2,500 nominees at http://jazzjournalistawards.com will be posted shortly. For the first time, the JJA is honoring jazz activists internationally for their humanitarian contributions to the art form. These Discretionary Awards decided by the JJA board, will be presented in Jerusalem, Chicago and Washington D.C. on June 17.

The Jazz Awards 2003 represent excellence and accomplishment in performance, recording, presentation and documentation of jazz during the year April 1, 2002 to April 1, 2003.

Previously the Jazz Awards have been presented at Jazz Standard, Birdland, South Street Seaport, the Knitting Factory and Alice Tully Hall. A full roster of Jazz Awards 2003 nominees is on-view at www.Jazzhouse.org, as is the history of the Awards and its past winners.

The JJA will host Jazz Awards nominated finalists at B.B. Kingıs Blues Club and Grill.

Tickets for the Jazz Awards are $75; nominees will get two tickets free, and may buy up to five additional tickets for $20 per ticket; JJA members may buy up to five tickets for $20 per ticket. JJA members and nominees must reserve these event tickets in advance.
