Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Fest
Vocal sensation Alicia Keys has been added to the lineup of the 2004 Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival, set for January 22 through January 24 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Keys will headline the event's closing show on Saturday January 24, at the Rose Hall's Cinnamon Hill Golf Course. The evening's lineup also features blue eyed soul singer Michael McDonald and jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson, among others.
The festival will open on Thursday evening with international headliners Nancy Wilson, Jamaican singer and songwriter Beres Hammond, and R&B/pop star India.Arie; Friday's lineup features country pop star Kenny Rogers (news), singer and songwriter Bobby Womack, and jazz keyboardist Monty Alexander, as well as a musical tribute to the late country legend Johnny Cash by his family and friends. Cash maintained a home in Jamaica for many years, before his death last year. All shows will also feature talent from throughout the Caribbean.
Pianist Monty Alexander, who was born and raised in Jamaica and now resides in New York, has played the last few Jamaica jazz festivals and says that for him, it's a homecoming. He told LAUNCH: "I've been down here a couple of times, not so many, and I love it. I love to think I'm back in my home. It's really a stunning set-up that they've achieved here, this whole platform and the stage and everything. Great, great, great."
