Ok, So What's A "Sticky"?
I've seen this word prefacing a couple of thread titles recently, including "Sticky: Poll: Split the Alley: music/non-music?" in The Alley.
There's a thread created by Lois in Speak Out titled "Sticky: Jazz Journalists Awards Nominees Announced"
I'm sure that "Sticky" is easily explainable, so humor me, please. :-) Is this like a bbs version of a Post-It Note? What's its purpose?
And what is the purpose of those little paperclip graphics attached to some thread titles? I thought I had it figured out, but I was wrong. I couldn't even figure out what the graphic representation was supposed to be until I right-clicked on it. Have you noticed this?

"Sticky" means it's "permanently" listed in the queue at the top, so it's perpetually visible. Its queue position doesn't vary with activity and age. Typically, a FAQ thread is often made sticky, so users automatically see it, even if it's not currently active.

Thanks, Vince. Where does one find this special feature? If lots of folks felt that their threads were the "cat's meow", wouldn't we see an unhealthy number of Stickys? I'm not exactly sold on this idea ... at least not yet.
Still awaiting word on the paperclip gif. It's small, but pervasive. Wazzup with this little paper clip?

My guess is that a "Sicky" is only available to administrators. Actually there is probably a hierarchy for certain types of posts. "Announcements" are even on top of stickies.
Now, what I can't figure out is why Lois made that boring jazz journalist award thread a sticky.

Ron, I'm pretty sure Uli is right and only administrators can make a thread a sticky.
The little paper clip means "there is at least one post in this thread that includes an attachment." Typically an attached image.

And here's another question: what does the little thumb's-up icon mean, that you sometimes see to the left of the thread title? As I type this the Philip Glass thread has a thumb's-up. Looks like this:

This new technology is tricky. I've been sticking post-it notes to my monitor when I post, and NONE of them have made it onto the threads.

A bona fide attached image gets a clip, but using the IMG function to point to a web image does not.
That thumbs up is one of the message icons. I'm not sure what will happen if I use it...
Edit: so it goes to the top of MY post. Maybe if the thread starter uses it it goes on the index page.

Sticky, smicky, ticky, wicky...what the hell
Well, um...... here today, gone tomorrow -
Just thought that I would try out the board. Took all of six weeks to figure out if this new board would work and it still makes no sense to me.
Maybe some of us dummys need a book to try and post.
To the last poster, how did you get that wicked smile?
At first I thought that Jazz Corner had gone defunct just like Jazz Central Station.
Oh well!!!!!
Is our lovely war keeping everybody on their toes???
Don't you just love the news media speculating all of what's happening?

Franki, is that you? Have you actually, finally arrived? Ye Ha!
Thanks for the info, everyone. Yeah, I figured it was an Administrators-Only function, but was thrown a bit of a curve when I saw Vincent Kargatis' thread/poll with a Sticky attached. I guess that Lois must have done that.
Thanks for the explanation re: the paperclip icon, Pete. I should have figured that one out. DUH!
Hey, Franki (Nardo) Yakimoto is finally in the house! DAMN!!
