Iraq: The fatalities so far

Here is a grim, tragic (alas, incomplete) list of American casualties in Iraq. I am posting it in the hope that some of our fellow posters--those who applauded Bush's push for this ongoing, senseless war--will find it sobering. We can add to this list a much longer one of civilian casualties, and we should bear in mind that other nationals have also died needlessly for this Bush adventure, and that Walter Reed Hospital is receiving a steady stream of seriously injured young people. Had Bush and his handlers not been so eager to attack Iraq, had they stuck to Afghanistan and pursued those who actually attacked us on 9/11, this list would have been much shorter. We must not forget this when the time comes to vote for the first elected president since Bill Clinton.

Well Paul, there are a lot of Americans who sleep soundly in their beds, because none of the lives on the preceding list is anyone they know. That way they can comfort themselves that those young men and women gave their lives in the cause of freedom and not in the cause of money, power and a reason that, before Sept 11, 2001, George W. Bush had no footprint on history. Well, thanks to this ill-conceived atrocity, he now has one.
As for the Iraqi citizens who were killed, well nobody cares. They don't know them. They don't care about them. Even the women and children and certainly the men who were killed were "terrorists", simply because they were there and were Iraqis. How odd that they would be in their own country.
There are those who think that everyone but them hold life cheaply, but what could be more cheap, not in money, but in lives lost?? AND it's far from over.
Mr Bush and his administration certainly have distinguished themselves and I suppose the history books will have a much clearer picture of how than we do now.
I wonder whether the parents of these brave young men and women who died in the quest for power and money for the few will accept that they have a precisely folded flag and a medal, instead of their child. Or, I wonder if, after the Veteren's Affairs Dept abandons the hundreds of maimed and blinded soldiers at Walter Reed and other hospitals, or later, when they depend on their country to help them, will be disappointed. They might want to see some of the walking wounded from Vietnam, and ask them how much their service was valued, after the photo-opportunities dry up.
