Grandparents Again!
After posting here for several years, many of you know a good deal about our family. There are certain things which will always remain private, but there are others which are worthy of sharing, and this is certainly one of them.
Patti and I have enjoyed being grandparents for about 10½ years, and our two grandchildren are a continual source of pleasure to us. We've been eager for another one, however, since our last grandchild was born over six years ago.
We received a phone call from our oldest son (Darren) in California on Monday night stating that we would become grandparents for the third time, probably in the first week of September. This is based on a home pregnancy test, but those are extremely reliable these days. I don't think I'll need to retract this thread next week after Brenda meets with her doctor for the "official" announcement.
Patti and I are stoked, but not exactly excited about the distance between Alaska and California. We're so spoiled having both of our grandchildren :15mins away from us most times. Frequent Flyer Miles will come into play.

Thanks, David.
Despite all of the history, it was impossible to appreciate what being a grandparent could mean until the moment occurred for us. It's indescribably delicious, and Patti and I savor it on a daily basis.

Mazel Tov, Ron!
As you know, I discovered I had five grandchildren this year, by a long lost daughter. I spent some of the Christmas vacation back in Philly, getting reacquainted with her, and meeting her husband and the five kids -- an amazing, and wonderful, and eye-opening, and above all healing experience!
As far as those frequent flyers miles.... First I moved from NY to California, then my brother, then my sister, and after a few years of too many trips, eventually my parents. C'mon, Ron -- aren't you getting a bit tired of those Alaskan winters?

Thanks, Steve.
Your story of "unknown" grandchildren touched me from the first moment I read your initial post. I'm so happy for you, my friend.
Alaskan winters work both ways. There are times ...

Congratulations to you, Ron and Patti and to Darren and his lovely wife.
If their new baby, soon to debut and your other grandchildren could choose their grandparents, they couldn't do better than you two.
As you know, my daughter and son-in-law presented me with Matthew, my first grandchild, last March. Nothing like it.

Heart congrats to you, Ron, and Patti and your son and his wife. Very exciting. I just wish I knew what it was really like. The closest I've come to it lately is what would have been my girlfriend's first grandchild, Christopher Jack Kennedy. He's now over two months old. She passed away a few years ago but since Christopher and his parents live less than three miles from me, I'm there as often as it's allowable! I was also at the hospital when he was born and saw him an hour after.
So happy for all of you!! There's nothing like it, I know that much!!
xoxoxo

Sorry, Ron, I have a hard time believing that the ever youthful Patti is a grandmother. But..............congratulations just the same, my friend...

Patti and I are very appreciative of your warm, generous remarks.
Jimmy, you made Patti smile broadly. :-) By the way, I agree, wholeheartedly!

We hope to visit the Pacific Northwest more often, but our son(s) and daughter-in-law live in southern California. I expect we'll be visiting the San Fernando Valley more often than in the past.
I'd love to attend the Vancouver Jazz Festival one of these days.

Congrats Ron. I've always wanted to be a grandfather. I'm trying to figure out how to do it without becoming a father.

Pete: find a baby from a politician's family, then you can make a deal to get Grandfathered in.

COngratulations Ron and Patti on the upcoming new dude or dudette.
Grandkids are the best, we now have six and I think that may be it, but one can never be sure.
Hey Ron, maybe sometime when you are visiting your daughter in SoCal we Cornerites can hook up for a hang-ette.
