Nat in New York

I'm almost certainly going to be in New York for the first two weeks of April (until the 14th or 15th). So, what's going on then? Anyone want to hook me up a gig? Any good gigs happening those two weeks?

Sorry Nat, all good musicians leave New York during that period and come back in early May. Plan better next time.

gyaah.

This is a holiday disguised as a trip out there for Shoko to do her music therapy registration exam, so no flexibility on dates, unless we end up not going at all for several more months.

Where do they go then?

Nat, you should try do do Barbes in Park Slope (Brooklyn). Do you know Michael Attias or anybody who knows Michael Attias? He curates Wednesday nights.

Pete I don't know Michael Attias, but I'll see if I can find out.

Jon, I'll e-mail you now.

Brian, why would anyone in their right mind come here in April, it's horrible that time of year.

Mark Taylor knows him, and I'd bet Ellery does too.

fwiw, I have seen Michael Attias a couple of times at Barbes, and he is a quiet but rather out player with a gift for generating attractive melodic lines out of nothingness. A solid, unostentatious downtown type. He plays mostly alto, and held his own alongisde Herb Robertson in a quartet over the summer. Having someone like him curate jazz shows means that there's something relatively interesting at least once a week. I tip my figurative and literal hat to Barbes; Park Slope needs it. I can't help in securing any bookings for Nat, but Attias and the French dudes who run Barbes seem like really nice and open-minded people, and it would be worth a shot to at least try.

Thanks Chris, sounds like place worth trying.

Hornplayer, yeah I know, but I wanted to see how far he'd go (really, I did know, really).

I still haven't seen Attias play, but I've been the happy recipient of his curatorial prowess on a number of occasions.

OK, flights are too pricey in April - double normal dough, so we're delaying until May half-term week or the summer (when it's still possible to get good deals). Thanks for the help with places to play, I'll get in touch with them when we know what we're doing.

What about the LAST week in April?

Jon, we are as yet undecided, but would still like to go for the Berlin weekend, whether that'll actually happen is going to depend on a lot of different stuff.

Nat, would you drop off some of your most recent disc at Downtown Music Gallery; they never came up with it after stalling me for a month when I ordered it in November. Pricks!! Plus Cadence doesn't seem to have it. Maybe I'll try Verge.

Squidco and Forced Exposure also have it Cap'n. I'll have to have words with Bruce if I make it over.

Found this after I mislaid it.

here's the post from the other thread, which I'll try to delete now I've rediscovered this one.

Quote:
I'll be in New York (flights booked this time, I was originally supposed to be there around now) from the 12th to 19th July, and for a couple of days at the beginning of September (on the way to and from Japan), so it'd be great to meet up with people if they're around. Haven't checked the listings yet (or tried to get any gigs), but keep me posted if anything worth going to turns up.
Hate, did you ever get hold of the disc?

Anyone want obnoxious house guests for a couple of days or so to save us paying for hotels?

We'll be in Boston at some point as well for a couple of days. Walt, we'll definitely meet up for a play, Lund?, who else is up there now? Dave, did you move to North Carolina or something?
