Kerry's contradictions

Interesting article in the New York Times on Kerry's voting record and flip-flops on various issues.

It's also interesting to note that most of the Massachusetts guys up there stumping for him right now can't stand his guts. Mickey Kaus reports that Ryan Lizza was planning on doing a pro-Kerry piece for the New Republic until Lizza started actually calling around the Bay State to get people's opinions of the man.

I'm starting to get the feeling that Karl Rove would have a field day with this guy if he were nominated. The Dems need to pick Edwards...

Edwards has a better chance because his record is shorter; he's only served one term.
Crawjo, I asked you a question on another thread but it got lost in a Goodfog.

Crawjo, I have a hard time understanding how anybody's ranking of the two Dems above and Bush could possibly be Edwards, Bush, Kerry. I understand Bush first or third but not second.

Why do you think that President Edwards would be much better for the country than President Kerry? There's very little difference between them on the issues. They are both emotionally stable. Kerry is a career politician whereas Edwards got rich as a very successful malpractice lawyer. What's to choose?

I do think it's hard to find wildly devoted Kerryites among those who've seen his act over the years. All this Edwards talk is kind of strange to me, though. A rich tort lawyer with a couple years in Congress (where's he done, well, nothing) and big hair. I don't think he was really running for this year until a few days ago.

This is what political consultants see as as "asset". You're obviously overthinking this election thing.

Kerry is famous for thinking Big Thoughts and not acting on them. I think that is a fair equivalent to doing nothing, which makes him attractive to me. With George W. Bush I've had enough "active Presidency" to last me a lifetime.

I take issue with those who object to Kerry's stiffness. The President of All The People is not supposed to be a Regular Guy (like W.); he's supposed to be Presidential. That is my shallow and frivolous analysis, and I'm sticking to it. Also, Teresa Heinz is the coolest potential First Lady, by far.
