Dating as far back as Sen. McCarthy's communist witch hunt to Tricky Dick Nixon's dirty tricks to Dubya's "rats" commercial, I say the republicans wrote the book.
"Dead equal" my butt.
Geez Monte.

On the other end, how about the Dems constant race-baiting--the NAACP ad connecting Bush to a lynching in Texas, the overheated rhetoric against the Bush administration...It's probably about equal.

Well, if the shoe fits...
How about Dubya's "liitle brown boy" reference to his nephew? Or let's talk about Dubya's shameless pandering to the Hispanic voters with this work furlough program or...I could go ON.
It's only mudslinging if is isn't true, my friend.

Yes, that's right. There can exist no calumny against a Republican, because Republicans are actually 100% evil and everything bad said about them is true to one degree or another. Whereas Democrats are as completely virtuous as they are intelligent and well-informed. Those poor exhalted bastards just get slandered by the malignant forces of greed, hypocrisy and racism.

All right then...show me how the Demon-rats are doing so much mudslinging...in specific.
I gave you three specific examples in history dating back to the 50s plus two related to your president appointee.
Here's your big chance, Monte.

Well, Goody, if you want history, we might as well talk about the Democratic Party's extreme opposition to Reconstruction in the South in the 1870s, and the rise of the KKK as a virtual military wing of the Democratic Party, used to suppress the black (read: Republican) vote. And while we are talking history, we might also mention that Democrat Woodrow Wilson actually RE-SEGREGATED the federal government during his terms in office. And then we might mention that distinguished senator from West Virginia, the former Klansman who was honored by Clinton. Hmm.

Three specific examples, hm. Let’s see. Ooh, that’s so tough. Last week, Michael Moore called the President a deserter. This morning on NPR, Howard Dean’s campaign manager called the President “the enemy.” Broadcast on the same program was John Edwards' suggestion yesterday to a crowd of supporters that George W. Bush enjoys waking up in a country where “millions of children go to bed hungry.”
If that ain't mud, it's still brown and it's still being thrown.

Everybody knows that the Republicans are evil, racist motherfuckers.
Democrats are free thinking and progressive.
Just admit it for once, would you please, Monte?

I'd be curious to see if the results would be different using "Liberals" vs. "Conservatives" rather than "Democrats" vs. "Republicans".

An interesting fact about the term “McCarthyism” is that in the 1950s the Kremlin sent directives to the CPUSA and to affiliated groups suggesting that all attacks on Communist activity, ideology, and organization should be met with outraged cries of “McCarthyism” to tar all anti-communists with one undesirable brush. In fact, perhaps the communists even coined the term. At any rate, they knew a clever misdirection when they saw one. It quickly became less desirable in some circles to be seen as one of the “McCarthyite” red baiting bunch than to be seen as an apologist for the worst kind of tyranny ever to exist on the planet.
So there you go: “McCarthyism” itself is mud.

Don't believe all that left wing blather, Monte! Sen. Joe was obviously a card-carrier himself. He should have looked in his other pocket!

When I first saw the title of this thread, I was hoping it was going to be a vote between me, Goodz, and Monte.
How about a thread to see who's the biggest shit talker?
Nah, whats the point. The landslide there would make a thunderous Noyz.

OK Crawjo...I'll give you 1870 and the Dixie-crats of the early to mid-20th century. I'll even throw in the Big Bosses and backroom deals of early 1900s Chicago.
I'm dealing with a more modern era with my five examples because the question is asked in the present tense. So I figure going back any further than 1950 is just ancient history. Most of which doesn't apply to today's world.
Tell you what...lets start with the Civil Rights Movement and go from there, OK? Because this is the time frame [60s to Present] most folks on this BBS remember and/or care about or are affected by. It serves no purpose to dig up negatives which no longer apply just so you can say the Democrats have skeletons in their collective closets. That's a given, Crawjo.
I propose we keep it "real."

So then explain Robert Byrd. And explain his continued use of the n-word, and while you are at it, explain why President Clinton honored him while he was in office.
Explain Louis Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam. Democrats? No, but they are certainly a part of the coalition that makes up the Democratic Party. Explain the anti-Semitism that comes from them, and others who have assaulted Jews during pro-Palestinian rallies.
I'm waiting.
