I thought about voting "French Lingerie," but then I decided that I'd have to post pics as well, and I don't photograph well.

We despirately need them when these SoCal winters drop down to the low 60's.

Yep, Allen A.--pink and 2 sets of sky blue. Awesome for skiing and tooling around the house. It's gotta be a balmy 25 degrees outside today though...I'm not even wearing gloves. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

California resident, so I don't need them. But I certainly don't "stick" to my Fruit of the Looms.

I found a pair stowed in a drawer that I hadn't used in 10 years, used one night in NYC last week while running around town during the IAJE convention!

I actually wear 'em all the time when I go birding or hiking in the Winter. And Chris is right, polypro, baby. Cotton kills.

I have a pair that I have sometimes worn at night as pajamas when it was really cold. But since it's so rarely really cold here I haven't worn them in years.

What are you, serious? You don't wear long johns here (and twelve pounds of other layers), you'll freeze yourself into a sex change.

Even though it's -40F right now with the wind chill, I don't see myself ever buying or wearing them. I just keep a space heater next to me in whatever room I'm in.

The shorter list would be the list of things not made in China.

Not enough to need long johns. It's a short walk from the parking garage to my office, and my apartment has heated underground parking, so there's no need there. I'm just not outside that much.
I never spend more than about two minutes outside in this weather. That two minutes is the walk from my apartment to the exercise room in my apartment complex. I love the walk back when I'm finished working out. The feel of frozen, sweaty hair (takes less than 30 seconds to freeze when temperatures are sub-zero) is really something else!

Try walking to work, a mile each way, in -32 degrees Celsius, with a wind-chill of -50 degrees Celsius. I've been doing that for the last three days and even my long underwear makes no difference. Top to toe: wool watchcap, wool scarf, wound three times, quilted coat, mid-calf length, wool pants, two pairs socks, winter boots, two pairs of gloves. As chic as all get-out.

Vibes -- I used to jog in winter conditions in Vermont, six miles five days a week, wearing long johns, standard sweats, a "fleece" neckwarmer, and wool hat. It was totally fine while running. The cool down walk home was really a cool down, though. Sheeit. :-)
If I didn't go outside in the winter, I'd commit suicide eventually, from cabin fever. Just gotta deal with it and look forward to spring. For months on end.

I agree with Gary, in that the routine must be maintained, including time outside, no matter the weather. Of course, common sense has to come into play. I've missed my two miles twice. I walk, rather than run, my usual route and dress warmly. But, to just sit in the house is the sure road to insanity.
Raising, even angrily shaking one's fist at the sky is totally acceptable.

Oh, there've been a few days this winter when I *wished* I could have stayed inside all day! But on the other hand, getting shit done and moving around is the best antidepressant of all. Grab a root and dig, as Ken Kesey said.
Last night after tucking the horses in for the night, I was checking the sky (great moon, a couple of planets in view, but too much light pollution from the ski areas for much else of interest) and marvelling at how casually we can start taking a night at a mere 2 F. Child's play! I didn't even bother with the long johns; just some sweats. Of course, it was thirty degrees warmer than our coldest temp at the barn (so far) this winter.
Well, Feb to get through, then March (which normally warms up but also normally brings the biggest blizzards), then slow, cruel April, which is always welcome nonetheless, if wet and muddy. After that, it's spring in Vermont. So, only, oh, two and 3/4 months to go. Piece of cake. (Sigh.)
Bronwyn and I have begun very casually talking about maybe one day, if the taxes here continue to increase at their present, manic rate, we might have to sell the spread and bail one day to some warmer horse place. Virginia, maybe. Or N. Carolina. Somewhere, warm with room for the horses to run.
I think the people will intervene and stop the tax madness before it comes to that, though. I hope. I'm pretty attached to this hillside, now.
