Pete: how old was Barney when he opened The Cookery? Meeropol's 'Strange Fruit' debuted at Cafe Society in 1937.

My research reveals that while the song was written in 1937, Billie first performed it in 1939.

I'd guess Josephson was in his 70s when he opened the Cookery. I was only there a couple of times, and I can't remember who I saw besides Humes.

I never caught Alberta Hunter, and I'm really sorry I missed Teddy Wilson.
