The Alley Confessional
Lighten your burden, my brothers and sisters. Admit what a shitheel you are. God's grace will heal you for there is a balm in Gilead. No one is going to judge you here. "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
OK, put down the rock, Fucking Saint.
Amen.
Now 'fess up.

Monte, why don't you delete the original thread you created?
Should one feel guilty if they exhibit pride?

Not proper pride, as Aristotle defined it in Nichomachean Ethics. But undue haughtiness or wrongful, foolish pride: yes.

Monte,
You left off "ALL of the Above."
Now how are you going to make a choice without it...?

BTW, I would pick Intensity.
But it wasn't there for me to choose.

Goody, on this poll you may select multiple choices. So "all of the above" is possible.
And let the record show that with his snarky comments, Goody cast the first stone on this thread.
Yuk yuk yuk.
*I forgive you.*

The confessional is supposed to remain private. But I have a big mouth, so OK. And realize that my sinning will vary from week to week, but no doubt encompasses every weakness flesh is heir to:
Pride - nah. I think I am pretty down to earth about my proper esteem and my foibles.
Avarice - you can't afford that in my line of work. I love money, but am zealous only in saving for the future of my family. That's no sin.
Envy - yes. I hate it when I publish bad writing. Satan whispers in my ear that I could do better.
Wrath - Oh hell yeah. I wake up with a bitter wrath toward Islamic terrorists.
Lust - Complete and total.
Gluttony - Not really. The occasional extra glass of wine or slice of cake.
Sloth - Jimmy Carter once confessed to "lust in the heart." I have "sloth in the heart." I'm guilty of the sin, but every day I get up at 5 am and work until closing hours Pacific time. But then again "work" is a laughable excuse for what I do. I did not click on "Sloth."
Posting bullshit - BUSTED!!!!

I think that when they (God or whoever it is that does these things) gets around to publishing a post-Internet Bible, posting bullshit will become a sin, but one slightly inferior to the foisting of spam upon your e-neighbour.

Being encouraged to admit our frailties has a certain cleansing effect. In fact, I feel a kind of new-found innocence, having confessed to my fallings short of perfection, which are many and varied.
Now I can go on and sin again. Is that the way it works?? Will the confessional be made permanently available for those times when the sheer weight of our collective wickedness becomes unbearable, so that we can unburden ourselves, once again???

Pride: You betcha. I'm a proud mothafucka, and I know it is a sin.
Avarice: I wish I was better at it.
Envy: Waste of time.
Wrath: Few other sins get me into as much trouble as wrath. Wrath is a bitch.
Lust: For years and years, but I finally whupped it. Or maybe I just got tired. Anyway, lust is outta business with me.
Gluttony: Yeah! Bring it on!
Sloth: Right around the time I kicked Lust out, I also kicked out Sloth. I think you need to be Slothful to be properly Lustful.
Posting Bullshit: Snark snark snark snark snark. Everything I post is bullshit.

Frailties? No no no. QUALITIES.
And Jazzzo, "sinning again" means you've stopped at some point. Not ideal.

Pride: Nah. My self-esteem is mid-range, which is realistic.
Avarice: Nope. My wife even wishes I were a little more avaricious than I am. When I worked for myself I used to forget to bill my customers... hopeless.
Envy: It does happen.
Wrath: It rarely lasts long, but yes.
Lust: Lust is the human condition. (Dave, you should see a specialist.)
Gluttony: Yes. I especially have to watch myself with regard to red wine and salty snacks.
Sloth: This is my major deadly sin. Under the heading "sloth" I include "surfing the web when I should be working." On the other hand, sloth is the mother of efficiency.
Posting Bullshit: This goes without saying.

It occurred to me that if I was given 24 hours with Shirley Manson, I could easily commit every one of those sins, with plenty of time to spare. Especially the "posting bullsh**" part that would certainly follow it.
Proud of himself and apparently sinning already because of it,
Larry

Pride - my least sin of the seven. I'm the first to confess regarding my own assholishness. I counted this sin because I'm a snob in certain ways.
Avarice - hmmm, this one also comes with a proviso. I've taken advantage of the tendency towards avarice on others' behalf to benefit my own. All I ever wanted was independence and used this sin as a means to an end.
Envy - admiration of others often slides into envy, I suppose. I envy the bastard who can have an occasional cigarette without becoming hooked. That sort of thing.
Wrath - my second favorite sin. My style is more a blustery Ralph Cramden soapbox variety, if you can picture it. A co-worker used to joke that it would be something if I ever developed a religious calling (he would then imitate me doing a preacher rant).
Lust - the champeen of all sins. I just erased some embarrassing shit.
Gluttony - I love to eat. Been a compulsive binger from childhood. Only thing which has prevented me from becoming HUGE is sin # 1, and genetics.
Sloth - is this a sin?
Posting Bullshit - every word I post is utter horseshit.

Of course I do them all, except the posting bullshit part, but I feel absolutly no guilt.
I am also outstanding at belching and farting.
I also misspell a lot. This site badly needs a spellchequer/
