The Answer is-- because he is alive and well.
The question is-- Why is Alex Trebek a very lucky guy?
"Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek escaped injury when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck, sideswiped a string of mailboxes and sailed over an embankment into a ditch, authorities said.
Trebek, 63, was driving alone on a rural road Friday and his truck was airborne for about 40 feet, California Highway Patrol Officer Scott Koolman said.
Trebek owns and manages Creston Farms, a horse breeding and training farm about 10 miles southeast of Templeton on the central coast. An employee there said he wasn't aware of the accident.
"I don't know how he's doing because I haven't heard anything about it," farm manager Art Mercado said.
A message left after business hours for "Jeopardy!" senior producer Rocky Schmidt was not immediately returned.

You know, this is really annoying to those of us who have been on the show and would like another crack at it. We're prohibited from returning as long as Trebek is the host (on the off-chance that we established some sort of relationship with him on the first go round). C'mon Alex, do us a favor and at least injure yourself enough to make a return to hosting impossible, fer krissake.

What do Hank Greenberg, Ed Kranepool, and Art Fleming have in common?

Brian, that's hilarious. I have three friends who have been on the show (including the guy, Myron Meyer, who broke the single-night winnings record for the show) and I tried out for it once, getting to the final round of testing before getting bumped out. After the first time around, we wound up having drinks with Trebek (who managed the difficult feat of being both pompous and engaging at the same time), but it didn't stop me from subsequently trying out for the show or for our mutual friend, present at the time, from actually getting on it.

mone, I'm reporting you to the Jeopardy police.
When I was on, in 1991, they were super paranoid about the contestents having absolutely no non-show contact with Trebek. We were instructed that, should he happen to walk by in the hallway or something, we were NOT to acknowledge him. But during the tapings he did seem to be a pretty nice fellow.

Brian: this was after the show, so maybe the rules didn't apply then. We didn't run into him in the studio, but at a pub a block away the evening after taping.

They were all star athletes for James Monroe High School. Fleming, the original Jeopardy! host, was a football star. Kranepool wiped out Greenberg's baseball records at JM. Unfortunately for Mets fans, his major league career didn't begin to approach that of the great hall of famer.

Nice one, Gordon.
My dad went to James Monroe High School, too.
Too young for Hank Greenberg and too old for Ed Kranepool.
You ever notice how game show hosts don't age?
Look at Wink Martindale. The man's face is etched in stone.
He looks the same as he did years ago.

Thanks to google I am saved from the embarrassment of having to ask "Who the fuck is Wink Martindale." He looks a lot like Dick Clark to me. Has anyone ever seen the two of them together?

This is Wink Martindale from about 25 years ago. Hasn't aged a day.
By the way, if you go to http://www.winkmartindale.com and order his biography, Wink will personally autograph a copy for you!!!
