Funny, I don't think the media did a bad job of conveying the dignity and graciousness of John Edwards' speech. Maybe there just is no telegenic way to broadcast a man jumping around like a giddy lunatic after coming in third. BWTFDIK?

I saw this demonstrated. It makes the tabloid-oriented media look very foolish indeed. Our so-called news outlets have become far too entertainment-oriented.
Monte: "BWTFDIK?"
Apparently much less than you think.

I think you're all missing the boat on this one. Howard Dean represents everything the extreme left believes stands for. The problem is that he actually comes out and tells people what the extreme left stands for, in stead of pretending to be a moderate during the campaign.
This is why Deam was their man up until very recently, when they must have stopped to think "what if this guy actually gets the nomination?"
The media would vote for this guy in a heartbeat if they thought he could win. However, they know that he, and the liberal agenda, is far too extreme for most Americans. Kerry is better at hiding his extremist views. He knows how to play the game.

I have to say, that I heard about the Dean scream many, many times before I actually saw it for myself. And when I saw it, I thought, "This is what everybody's been making such a big deal about?"
I didn't see anything in the speech that would "disqualify Dean from becoming president" as I have seen some suggest. I thought he was just being authentic Dean. And I don't have any problem with that.

The "Dean scream" story effectively killed his chances in NH. Now his candidacy is on life-support and may be over three days from now. Dean supporters can legitimately feel bitter at the inaccurate portrayal of his post-Iowa caucus speech.

Nixon loses the "debate" with Kennedy because he has a five o'clock shadow. This is an ancient story. Has it ever really been about the issues?

The Dean speech coverage is over blown, over wrought, over rated.
The tabloid media is just gleefully riding their new found hobby horse...playing in the toilet like little children with that new toy.
Nothin' else to it.

My wife and I watched the performance live and the impact was immediate, not the result of media saturation. Several posters on this board made comments about how Dean had blown it with his Iowa rant the morning after the rant, having seen the live broadcast. Ron Thorne, for example. While the media certainly played and replayed this clip with glee, the misstep by Dean needed no reinforcement to cast doubt on his character and demeanor. Dean made a spectacle of himself, as he did on occasions before Iowa. This is a case of the media getting it right. Shocking, i know.

What Monte saw was as deceptive as a Bush-read speech. The audio on the clip everybody delighted in was from his hand-held, extremely directional microphone--it totally locked out the background sound, which was a very large, exhuberant crowd yelling in a semblance of unison. Monte, of course, does not want to hear that, but it's what really happened, and we Bushie fitto heads don't want to hear pesky facts.

Turn the sound off on your TV set and watch John Edwards' post-Iowa speech and Howard Dean's post-Iowa performance. Look at the images and tell me it is the fault of the microphone. Gimme a break.

Is this a chapter of Dr. Spock that was missing from some editions?

Uh-huh.
You being a Liberal have SO much credibility. Yeah. Anybody who believes that, stand on your head...
Geez, Monte...you also think anybody who disagrees with you is completely without merit or intelligence, as well.
Buddy...you have NO clue how to reasonably judge anybody you wouldn't vote for yourself.

Apparently, your private school didn't teach extended metaphors or double entendres.
It's a double meaning, Hate.
[You see, "toilet" would refer to the level which the media will stoop to get a story (It's a filthy place where people deficate. Get it?)..."children" would refer to the immature spitefulness inherent in such biased and mean spirited reporting. Try to stay with me, here.]

Does anybody find it amusing that Diane Sawyer issued the mea culpa for this? I'm sure the people at Food Lion consider her a model of integrity.
