Wendy Oxenhorn of JFA is Honored on Feb 8

Wendy Oxenhorn, Executive Director of the Jazz Foundation of America, is being honored on February 8, 2004, along with Marilyn Bergman, Chaka Khan, filmmaker F. Gary Gray, Queen Latifah, CA Senator Kevin Murray and Steve McKeever of Hidden Beach Records

Wendy Oxenhorn, Executive Director of the Jazz Foundation of America, will accept an award at the AEC Grammy Sunday Brunch, which is being held this year at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Los Angeles, on Sunday, February 8, 2004, from 11:00am to 2pm.

Time Warner Inc. Chairman Richard Parsons, a supporter of the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) _ which is based in New York City _ will present the 2004 Artist Empowerment Award to Wendy Oxenhorn for her dedication to hundreds of jazz and blues musicians by providing emergency social services including preventing eviction and homelessness, getting free health care and operations from a network of pro bono specialists through the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, repairing instruments, keeping phones on, and even providing emergency food and living expenses. Oxenhorn will also be recognized for her role in producing high-profile benefit concerts (A Great Night in Harlem at the Apollo) that have raised over a million dollars for the Jazz Foundationšs Musicians Emergency Fund, which provides emergency care to musicians.

As part of the luncheon, a short film on the JFA will be shown as well as an announcement that E*Trade & its president; Jarrett Lilien, will spearhead the building of a Player's Residence in New York City for jazz and blues musicians. This annual brunch is a private, invitation-only affair that includes over 400 artists and industry leaders. Attendees and performances in 2003 included: Alicia Keys, Ashford & Simpson, Jazz great Jon Faddis, Jill Scott, Musiq, Prince and Stevie Wonder. AEC was started by Stevie Wonder, Prince, Roberta Flack and Londell McMillan to pay tribute to artists, individuals, companies and organizations that give back to the community through work in the arts.

Jazzcorner also honored Wendy and the Jazz Foundation of America's Jazz Musicians Emergency Fund at the Jazzcorner Jams when we presented them a check for $500 for CD sales from Jazzcorner sites. Whenever you a buy a CD from a Jazzcorner artist, a portion of the proceeds goes to the Jazz Musicians Emergency Fund. We are also proud to donate their website in kind
