Private message notification

I had set my user options to notify me of private messages by "popping up a box." However, I have never been notified in this way. I don't see private messages that have arrived until I go to the user control panel.

How exactly is that supposed to work? Are you only notified by a popup box if you are logged in at the time the message is sent to you?

Anyway, I put email notification on as well, just to be sure.

If you sent someone a private message and then it shows up days later with a "denied receipt" message does that mean (1) you are on their ignore list or (2) does it mean that they don't accept private messages from you or (3) does it mean that they just denied that particular message?

Tippy, I think I figured out the "deny receipt" thing.

When you send a PM, the default option is to ask for a receipt, that is, notification of when the message was read by its recipient.

When you receive a PM for which receipt-request is "on," you are given the choice to deny that receipt. "Deny receipt" means "don't tell the sender that you've read it."

If you don't click "Deny receipt," the sender will know when you read it. How? By looking at "Message tracking" in the drop-down list box on the Private Messaging page.

1. Click user cp at the top of the page.

2. On the User Control Panel page, click edit options.

3. Under Messaging & Notification, choose "no" for use 'email notification' by default, and "yes" for enable private messaging. You can choose yes or no for whether to receive an email when you receive a private message.

Hey, Dave:

If you look on the "Edit Options" page of your UserCP, you'll see two different buttons. One says "Use 'Email Notification' by default?" which should be set to no and the other says "Send you an email when you receive a Private Message?" which should be set to yes.

Voila.
