Peter Leitch

TORONTO – March 1, 2004 - Jazz Guitarist, composer, recording artist and noted photographer, Peter Leitch will be thrilling Toronto jazz audiences next week with his singular, moving, inventive and harmonically sophisticated musical guitar style. Joining him on the bandstand of Toronto’s definitive jazz boite, “The Top O’ The Senator”, will be New York bassist, Sean Smith and a member of Peter’s original New York trio, Terry Clarke on drums.

Both Clarke and Smith have worked with Peter Leitch extensively—so what the audience will hear is that unique kind of symbiosis that only happens when musicians have developed non-verbal and intimate levels of communication. It has been four years since Montreal-born Peter Leitch performed to enthusiastic audiences across Canada, and he (as well as his cutting-edge bop) has been much missed. Peter’s all-star group will be bringing the art of the trio to new heights, as they perform for jazz lovers in several major Canadian cities.

Following the gig at “The Senator”, tour destinations will include “Hermann’s” in Victoria, B.C. on March 19th; a “Master Class & Workshop” at Victoria’s Long & McQuade Music--also on March 19th; “The Cellar” in Vancouver on March 20th; “The Yardbird Suite” in Edmonton on March 27th and two concerts (as well as a workshop) at The Berney Theatre in Winnipeg on March 28th. On tour, veteran Toronto bassist, Steve Wallace will be replacing Sean Smith. While in Toronto, The Peter Leitch Trio will be making a recording for The CBC and conducting Master Classes on March 11th at The University of Toronto and on Friday, March 12th at Humber College. Peter’s most recently released recording, UP FRONT (Reservoir Music) includes guests Sean Smith on bass, and Marvin “Smitty” Smith on drums, and has consistently garnered rave reviews from the music media. Jim Ferguson of Jazz Times has written, “The Canadian-born guitarist renders this diverse nine-tune set (including five originals) with a combination of his trademark virtuosity, imagination, musicianship and good taste…further evidence that Leitch is one of the finer straight ahead guitarists around.” Peter will be performing at Toronto’s “Top O’ The Senator”, Tuesday through Sunday, March 9 –14.

No doubt this trio will generate the excitement and musical magic that follow Peter Leitch on his many engagements at prominent jazz venues and festivals in Manhattan and throughout the world. “The Top O’ The Senator” is located at 249 Victoria Street, in Toronto. Tuesday through Saturday, Showtimes are at 9:30 and 11:30 PM. On Sunday, Showtimes are at 8:30 and 10:30 PM. For reservations (highly recommended) please call 416-364-7517.
