The Sidney Bechet Society - May 17
The Sidney Bechet Society® presents an all-star cast of fourteen jazz
and tap acts in fifteen scenes on May 17, 2004 at 7:30 P.M., featuring
The Sidney Bechet Society® Band with Randy Sandke, Evan Christopher,
Wycliffe Gordon, Ruth Brisbane, Vince Giordano and The Young Hoofers®.
Act 1, Scene 1, opens with an 8-piece ensemble in a good old New
Orleans jam session. Scene 2, Pete Sokolow plays Fats Waller. Scene
3) A mythical session where Benny Goodman meets Sidney Bechet with two
of today’s reed greats, Dan Levinson and Evan Christopher standing on
the shoulders of the two legendary masters. Scene 4) Ruth Brisbane
singing the blues. Scene 5) Matt Munisteri solo. Scene 6) The Young
Hoofers® prove that tap dancers can jam, too. Scene 7) six year old
Frankie Clemente and Scene 8) Act 1 concludes with the 8-piece ensemble
in a jam session.
Act 2, Scene 1) The Sidney Bechet Society® Band playing the music of
Sidney Bechet. Scene 2) Dan Levinson solo. Scene 3) The Young
Hoofers® return. Scene 4) Ruth Brisbane. Scene 5) Randy Sandke.
Scene 6) Wycliffe Gordon. Scene 7) Evan Christopher. Scene 8) The
stomping evening concludes with the entire cast in a jam session - -
with the exception, we hope, of young Frankie Clemente, who, we trust,
has gone home to bed after Act 1.
This session takes place at 7:30 in the evening of Monday, May 17,
2004, at the All Souls Unitarian Church, 1157 Lexington Avenue (at E.
80th Street) NYC. Admission is $20.00 for SBS® members, $30.00 for
