Lloyd's Tribute to "Master" Higgins

1st part of the concert (in Cully, Switzerland, last sunday) was a video of Lloyd and Higgins playing together (at Lloyd's home?). Quite moving and beautiful. I hope this video will be released. The second of the concert Lloyd played tenor, tenor/piano, alto, flute, clarinet, his missing of "Master" Higgins, and then more cheerfully, "Master" Higgins is with him still. I really likes his flute playing, less so the alto sound (he played only one tune on the alto), but that is me. On the tenor, which he used most of all the instruments, Coltrane was there, now and again, very clearly.

Was thrilled to see the man perform for the first time in a pure jazz context last year (in 1978, he had a band that opened for the Beach Boys because he and Mike Love were doing TM together and had collaborated on a terrible soundtrack to a worse movie called Almost Summer).

He has such a presence about him, and he's so slight a physical specimen it's always surprising to think about where that sound is coming from. I look forward to the next opportunity to see him. Was Geri Allen still with him; she was incredible.

Lloyd gave 2 concerts, the first in duo with G Allen. There were some problems with the piano, I think. They played in one of those circus tent, the acoustic was not the best. I left after 4-5 numbers, not impressed. heard that they did get better later on. And then the second concert was solo.
