Wow, 60! Happy b-day, Mr. P. I wonder if he's going to release a 60th Birthday Concert recording.

Three people ONLY to wish an happy birthday, and a symbolic one, 60 years old (on about 70 + viewers) to, maybe, the greatest sax/improviser alive, really oustanding for the most progressif and hip jazz bord of the net!

LeMo: I'm happy to say happy b-day to Evan to his face but I don't quite see why it's disrespectful not to chime in on this thread with which he has nothing personally to do & which doesn't really offer much to chew on. Give me something substantial to respond to & THEN I'll take the trouble to post. & I'm not interested in looking "hip" & "progressive", either.

birthdays are fairly random celebrations, I don't even pay much attention to my own. I'm very glad that Evan Parker has managed to stay alive for 21,915 days (using 365 1/4 as the multiplier), and I used to be a big fan of his, but I'm not sure why a whole slew of "happy birthday!" posts which as Nate said, he wouldn't likely even see, matters. if you want to take this exciting and festive occasion to write a long post about your personal history with him, go for it, I'd like to read it.

Well, what a little procation can do.
Good, five answers now.
Its a little bit better when you consider than Cecil Taylor (I wasn't on the board that night to wish him his birthday or I didn't see it, my bad) got fiteen "h-birthday" (not much either) and, after a little search, I discover than even Joan Baez got six answers.
So a little effort still and maybe the first thread I ever start on this board will climb a bit.

Abbey, yeah, I will try maybe, and whenever I have time to, to relate my "personnel relation with EP".
In french of course. A long and post "full of sound and furry". Maybe a size of a novel.
But what I like to know better, Abbey it's when YOU stop "to used to be a big fan of (Parker)" and why.
If you have ever told this epic story already, repeat it again for me, please.
You know, I'm rather new here.
(by the way, I have some difficulties to believe than "you don't even pay much attention to (your) own" birthday, you know...

N.Dorward, who has ever spoke about to be "direspectful" to Evan Parker?
It was just a way to make our own little celebration in honour of the great man to pay him a little hommage.
Maybe as canadian you understand a bit or more of french? If it the case, THEN I can give you now & then "some substantial" things "to chew on".
By the way, even if the lack of substance of my post (or of this thread as a whole) is patent, well, seems than you take the "trouble to post" aniway.
Let's me tell you to end this another long and "unsubstantial" post that I agree with you on one point: be absolutely sure that I have never think (thought?) that you where (or wanted too look) "progressiste" or "hip" either: "academic" or "pompous" rather.

And you know what? I'm not surprise a bit that it was the two of you and nobody else who jump here first to slam me. You're so predictable (that word is not in my old dictionnary, hope it's the good aniway(?)

no one is slamming you, Mr. Sensitive. Nate and I were attempting to answer you. why are you trying to pick a fight?

"Abbey it's when YOU stop "to used to be a big fan of (Parker)" and why."

I don't know, 5 years ago, 7 years ago? I was pretty close to a completist before that, not on Martin's level, but I had close to 50 CDs of his and saw him play maybe 10 times. why did I lose interest? I just thought he was effortlessly brilliant in terms of technique, but that only gets you so many times, and the actual content started to bore me, I felt like he was going over the same ground every time. I'm not criticizing him, just telling you why I personally lost interest in his work. I think he's likely the greatest post-Coltrane saxophonist, if that makes you feel better.

and I have actually totally forgotten my own birthday before, sorry if that seems unfathomable to you.

I'd chimed in because of the post accusing the members of the board of gross neglect merely for failing to post in this thread.

I've edited the original post to remove an ambiguity.

Man, you guys are misguided. Nobody, not a single person on this site started a Happy Birthday Horace Tapscott, Charlie Rouse, Randy Weston, or Art Taylor thread yesterday !

"unfathomable", I like this word to.
But I don't have find what it means (not on my dictionnary). Somebody helps?

Editing: I just got it: Insondable (in french), nice.

I want to be called from now the UNFATHOMABLE Mr. SENSITIVE !!!
Still better.
Love it!

Twelve and Thirteen, if I count mysef and I will (yes, I now, it's a little bit of cheating, but April is the month of the fool and also of the cheater.)
Joan Baez is far behind, now, and Cecil just in front. Right on!

Jon, perhaps you might want to share with us what troubles you and leads to such actions on your part that one can hardly expect from a man as yourself who's involved in the production of such cerebral and "deep" music - the spirit of which, I must add, was reflected much better in your previous posts about the meaninglessness of b-days, threads like these and the like.

Thank you for your love, Uli.
Thank for your support GNHRTG.

But, let me say to both of you, that the great winner of the evening, the real entertainer of this thread is... ABBEY (I write is name in capital letter because, today, he really deserves it.)

Believe me, Abbey, I was, from the beginning, absolutely certain that I could rely on you and your indigent post to make this h-birthday Evan Parker thread (god bless his sweet soul and his stupendous lungs), the great triumph that it is now.

What number is that post, 23?

"We are the champions, my friend, we.. are... the... champions... my friennnnnnnnnnds!" (as a sport lover you must certainly sings this one a lot).

Edit: No, it's post 26!
And I have the feeling that we have still lot of posts ahead of us!
This thread is not dead yet, oh no!!!

I must say that I found Jon's outburst funny. But the new funny LeMo is cool too.

Then again, Jon's new avatar reminds me of the Rolling Stones tongue logo.
