We're not going to be as strong as our weakest link. [huh???]

Where were you guys at the end of "My Way"?
What is the confusion on these endings?
Do you want your jobs??
I splice like a fuckin' hammer..............................

You guys have three fuckin' days to get it together. [then he bumped it up to a week, in a fit of generosity]

Looks like John really is "on notice". I liked when Anka said, [several times] "I'm the only important one on that stage".

You're on thin ice. You understand that? That's just the way it fucking is! I'm warning you, I'm the only important one on that stage! Who are you watching?

I'm giving you one week to get it together -- otherwise I'm going to ream your fucking asses!

People of substance and character care about what they do.

This is amazing. How did you find this link, Moné?

He looks nice enough. What a fun gig this must be.

He's obviously a man of substance and character and "the only important one on that stage. Ya understand that? That's just the way it is around here!"

Another wardrobe malfunction controversy!

I wonder if he was still a viable entertainment act rather than an oldies guy playing shitty tents, if he wouldn't be such a bitter fuck.

I can't claim to know what the job market is for musicians who would compete for such a gig, but I don't think I would take that kind of shit from someone with his sparse credentials. Buddy Rich is another thing, entirely; he was arguably the best in the world at what he did and played classy joints; but to suffer those slings and arrows from Paul Anka?

They'd have to be some wicked pissa shirts for me to stay on the gig.

As comical as this is, I have a place in my heart for an old school rant like Anka hands out here. Sometimes, that really is the message you have to send people. Maybe it's my mafia roots or something, I don't know.

Hey, when you're packing a .44 Magnum like in your avatar, you don't need to say NUTHIN!

Personally, I believe that in general, you attract more flies with honey than with vinegar (although dog shit works pretty well, too!).

As for football players, yeah, you can work on their pride and machismo by calling them pussies to rile them up, but I would think a musician or other artist could be reached in more elegant and compassionate ways.

Speaking of elegance, have any of you caught the commercials for Viagra, which use "My Way" as the song which overjoyed gentlemen, in showers, sing, having overcome their erectile dysfunction??
That, and "We Are The Champions" are the two which are being used, at least here in Canada.
Anything for a royalty buck, I guess.

I have absolutely no problem with ranters. I've worked for and with more than my share, and I've been chewed out more times than I can count, usually for things that I had no control over. It doesn't matter to me. Either you take it and move on with your life, or head for the door. Nobody's holding a gun to your head. Me, I'd rather stay and get a paycheck.

Aggressive personality types are usually very good at getting shit accomplished, which, in a business, is what matters most. And if a person can't get it done, than it doesn't matter if he's a ranter or a really nice guy.

You said it, man. I've been in situations where I was about to begin a close working relationship with someone I was warned was a miserable, ball breaking prick. It's happened more times than I can count. In almost every instance, I've developed strong bonds with those people. They were the most efficient at getting things done, or getting what they needed. I learned more from those people than any other type.

I'll take working with a smart guy who knows what he wants but is a f**king bastard over a dumb but nice guy any day.

Both naughty and nice at times but in a way that the little girls understand best,
Larry

In case some folks didn't get the reference in Moné's initial post, Buddy was a notoriously harsh and temperamental bandleader. Some years ago, someone uploaded a very similar audio file of Buddy bitching out the band to a website. I think it was actually an assortment of clips captured over a span of several years. It's been a while, so I can't remember exactly how the website was laid out, but it was very similar to the page Moné linked to. It was D'Imperio who sent me the link via email a long time ago, so I don't have it anymore. If I wasn't a lazy motherf**ker, I might search Google and find it.

But, alas, I am a lazy motherf**ker. Good luck finding it. That's just the f**king way it is.

Reminds me of my old man. Never thought I'd miss those rants.

As for Buddy Rich, my favorite story about him has Rich being wheeled into the operating room to undergo a very serious operation (brain tumor). A very caring nurse, hoping to put Rich at ease, asked him if there was anything that bothered him. His reply, "Yeah, country music"....
