JAZZOOOLive on the radio tonight (Thursday)

Yesterday, as part of my local marketing plan, I dropped off 10 or so CDs at the local jazz station and introduced myself to the manager. The promotions director is a casual acquaintance, but I didn't see her.

She called today and invited me to spend an hour on The New Jazz Thing tonight, to promote the CD and the upcoming gigs. Pretty cool!

I think they webcast--it's KSDS: www.ksds-fm.org. I'll be on from 7pm PST to 8 pm. We'll be playing cuts from the new CD. I've gotta go think about what I want to get across on the air, so I'll talk to you all later.

Best,

Doug

Why leave so many at one place?

I'll let Doug add, delete, or tell me I'm nuts [kidding], but my guess, which may be all or partially correct is that one (1) is a station copy, any other # let's say 2 - 4 are for key jocks and jazz department personnel, let's say that makes four/five (4/5) the remainder can be given to lucky call in winners [or other method] as prizes courtesy of Jazzooo Productions, which really maximizes opportunities & the number of times the CD gets mentioned, and probably played on home turf.

How close to reality am I, Doug?

Mine arrived today and will be heard in Nocal at KSJS 90.5FM, San Jose and www.ksjs.org

Mike of course has it right--I asked the program director how many he needed and he said "At least one for every dj." They have 6 or 7. The rest are going to be used for call-in prizes next week. And tonight, the dj asked me for a signed copy he can take home.

Did anyone happen to listen? It went pretty well, I think. The CD does sound great on the air, I'm relieved to say! I talked about my background, my influences, the size of my butt (I'm performing 'in the round' on Sunday), and of course, the new album. We played four tunes from it (he had played one 15 minutes before the show as well). At one point, he asked me to go into the library and pick out a CD that represented one of my biggest influences. I grabbed Night Passage by Weather Report and played the title track, which gave me a chance to talk about recording with Peter Erskine.

After the show, I hung out with the dj and actually picked out and announced another great track, this one from Steps' reissue of Smokin' in the Pit, one of my favorite albums. I got to talk about Steve Gadd's controversial way with swing!

I could only catch a part of it because I was off doing research at the library, but I did hear the part about your butt. Is that going to be a standard part of your pr campaign?

Seriously, though, you sounded good, and the bit of music that I heard sounded quite good. You are right, the sound did come across very well over the air: the dynamics of the trio really came through!

Well, Crawjo--tits and ass seem to work for some people. I'm just going to try ass and see what happens.

Seriously, I'm just grinning from ear to ear that I'm part of a community spread around the world--this world, today--that can tune in and hear me playing tunes on a radio station in my hometown. JC rocks.

Sorry I missed your on-air appearance Doug, but am glad that things went well. Congrats on the new album, which I'm anxious to hear.
